Today we celebrated Dr Driese’s work and contributions to the field of paleopedology. Lots of great talks about paleoclimate, geochemistry, weathering, and of course, lots of vertisols!
Yesterday, we were pleased to have the 2022 Farouk El-Baz award winner Ronald Amundson speak about his work on desert (and Martian!) soils and why deserts are so special. Congrats! #GSA2022
Come visit the @geosociety#Geoarchaeology Division booth at #GSA2022! We're at Booth 2922 with our good friends at @GSASoils . You can pick up a Geoarch fleece hat, bandana, or vinyl sticker for suggested donations that will go toward our student award funds!

You can see some results from their research at GSA! (3/3)
SSPD is excited to highlight our student members (and minds behind this year’s winning t-shirt design)!
Lucy Peterson (left) and Morgan Mellum (right) look at the changing climate over the K-Pg boundary… (1/3)
…specifically how the processes that acted on pre-extinction paleo landscapes affected the climate response of these environments in the aftermath of the K-Pg impact. To do this, Lucy and Morgan collected paleosols from Big Bend National Park, Texas… 2/3)
‼️T-SHIRT ALERT‼️ stop by the SSPD booth next week for some t-shirts and other merch (stickers and pens!). These t-shirts were designed by an awesome student member! Proceeds raised from merch will go towards student grants in the division. What soil order do you want to rep?
