Our Community Outreach group welcomed high school juniors and seniors to our Summer Biomedical Academy over the last two days! They explored our programs: Neuroscience, Therapeutics and Pharmacology, Genetics and Epigenetics, Molecular and Translational Biology, and Immunology through interactive presentations and lab tours, heard career and college prep talks, and played Jeopardy! Big thanks to our volunteers and student presenters for inspiring these future science and medical professionals! #WeAreGSBS #futurescientists @TAPatGSBS@MTBatGSBS@NeuroMDAUTH@GSBS_Outreach
Today wraps Day 1 of Summer Biomedical Academy! High school students emerged in activities led by graduate students from our Neuroscience, TAP, G&E, and Immunology Programs. Thank you to all the volunteers and students. We look forward to tomorrow! 🧬🔬🧠🥼🧪
A big thank you to our friends at the Health Museum for welcoming us back for a second year, to the future generation of scientists for their curiosity and engagement, and to our Outreach members for their involvement to make this session such a valuable experience.
Last month, Outreach visited the DeBakey Cell Lab Interns at the Houston Health Museum. The day was filled with meaningful interactions with high school students through a research journey panel, a biomedical research discussion, and a hands-on CRISPR activity.
Zohra, one of our volunteers, shared her highlight of the day: “My favorite part of the event was seeing the interns' genuine curiosity about how to pursue research opportunities. It was inspiring to see their dedication as they navigate the next stage of their academic journeys”

This past weekend, we kicked off the fall season by volunteering at the @HoustonArboretu ArBOOretum Family Festival. It was a wonderful experience watching kids and families come together to decorate pumpkins, get face paintings, and enjoy trick-or-treating on the trail.
September is #SuicidePreventionMonth. Stop by table set by Dr. Jason Yu and UTH Student Counseling Services team, outside of BSRB Large Classroom TODAY from 10:30am to 12pm to learn more.
Expect to see pumpkin decorating, a petting zoo, adorable Halloween costumes, and more. For more information and sign-up: https://t.co/VhVtbuQtIG
We are excited to see everyone, and stay tuned for more info on first fall social event!
