@GSCSELA I never truly thought about strategies fading away when they become automatic to students. They still use them it is just not focused on while reading. Happening naturally ❤️ Totally agree strategies must be broken down and practiced! #GSCSELA
@GSCSELA Visible goals are important so students can access them when they are doing independent work. I plan on definitely using the bookmark idea- easy to implement and allows students to be creative. #GSCSELA
@GSCSELA Effective feedback must be clear and connected to the goal of the student. My feedback is focused and clear, but I want to work on providing more feedback on their effort toward a goal instead of just how well they did. #gscsela
@GSCSELA They differ in text, time, and purpose. Strategy groups use self selected texts on student’s independent level, focuses on strategies, and last 5-10 minutes. Guided reading groups use teacher selected texts on student’s instructional level, and last a little longer. #gscsela
@GSCSELA These allow students to have deep conversations, show understandings of the literature, and see things from the perspective of others. Utilizing more book clubs especially with my at or above grade level students is my goal. #gcscela
@GSCSELA Our role is to first listen and not take over. We must teach students to ask questions, call on each other, chime in when needed. Modeling this behavior is important. I definitely plan to step aside and listen more. #gscsela
@GSCSELA We need to make sure IR happens daily. It should be priority in literacy stations. We might not need a whole group mini lesson everyday, sometimes just read and conference with students. #gscaela
@GSCSELA It is the heartbeat because it is what can most help a reader. We must find time to conference daily. Less busy work in literacy stations and more time to simply read and improve. #gscsela
@GSCSELA There has to be a classroom library stocked with books that the students want to read. I check out tons of books from the media center and use getepic. I also purchase lots of books from thrift stores. @gscsela
A6- I think mentor texts are very important to teaching writing well. They model the key qualities and motive students. They allow for students to “mimic” a real author and lead to great discussions about writing. #GSCSTWW
