Great question! We might also ask, if Jesus wanted to turn water into wine, why didn't He personally handle the jars of wine? If Scripture is to be a rule of faith for us, why didn't Jesus personally write a word of Scripture?

In all cases, His divine power operates through human intermediaries. St. John says that "the first of his signs, Jesus did at Cana in Galilee" (John 2:11), but He does it entirely through the servants. And John 4 says that "Jesus was making and baptizing more disciples than John (although Jesus himself did not baptize, but only his disciples)" (John 4:1-2). So again, Jesus' divine power is at work through human intermediaries.

Once you understand this biblical principle, the sacraments, the miracle-working of the Apostles, and the divine and human authorship of Scripture make so much more sense.
