I write first checks into pre-seed and seed companies. And unlike most funds writing first checks, I will lead the round.
What I look for:
1. Revenue-generating SaaS or AI at the core of the business
2. $1,000 MRR or 100 customers. Traction before the pitch
3. Software only. No hardware, no CPG, no services
4. US-based company, US-citizen founder
Checks run $10K to $500K on a founder-friendly SAFE, sized to the milestone you are chasing. Most founders do not need $500K. They need $25K to hit the next proof point.
Decision in 2 to 4 weeks.
I bootstrapped my own company from a one-bedroom NYC apartment to $70M ARR with zero outside funding. I post the playbook I actually used. Fundraising, positioning, pricing, and the mistakes that cost me the most.

AI is now a capital decision, but finance teams aren’t ready: only 6% have embedded it in their work. CFOs now own AI strategy, capital reallocation, and business models. Tie every spend to an outcome before signing. Does your CFO own the budget, or just the blame?
Unpopular opinion: Vibe coding in natural language doesn’t make you a developer. I integrated mainframes at Microsoft; at 2am, nobody cared how well I described a problem. They cared whether I could fix it. Prompting is a skill. Development is a discipline. Don’t confuse them.

Crypto had access, not alignment. A president, Oval Office meetings, and a bill still weren’t enough.
Access gets calls returned. Alignment creates reasons to say yes.
Build what works without someone else’s permission. Otherwise, it’s hope with a budget.
