That’s not a leaked script — that’s a desired ending. Retaliation, U.S. business pressure and Canadian diversification are all plausible. But “Canada wins” is the unsupported part. Canada still sends roughly two-thirds of its exports to the U.S., while Washington has already escalated from tariffs to import bans and procurement restrictions. Hope isn’t a forecast.

If you include affordability, jobs, unemployment, safety, healthcare, and taxes, the picture gets more complicated. Some Canadian cities win on safety and healthcare cost protection, but several U.S. cities still lead on job depth, wages, and lower tax burden.

This mixes legitimate policy disagreement with claims that don’t hold up. Provinces do not impose Canada’s customs tariffs — international trade and tariffs are federal jurisdiction. Alberta simply chose not to add the kind of provincial retaliatory measures other provinces used.

Private health care isn’t something Danielle Smith invented either. Ontario has 900+ privately operated community surgical and diagnostic centres, including MRI/CT facilities, and private delivery has existed there for decades. Alberta’s new dual-practice model does go further by allowing eligible doctors to provide both publicly funded and privately paid surgeries, but that is not the same thing as abolishing universal health care or creating an “American system.”

And Smith has explicitly said she supports Alberta remaining in Canada and would vote against separation. Disagree with her policies all you want — but “traitor,” “treason,” and “trying to join the U.S.” require evidence, not political rhetoric.

Criticize the policy. Don’t manufacture the motive.

Worth reading what D&B actually says behind those numbers. Canada’s 22% decline was “driven largely by the prior year’s purge of vulnerable firms,” and D&B describes Canada entering 2026 in “fragile stability.”

D&B also says China’s headline decline is distorted by delayed Q4 disclosures, while India’s low formal count is partly suppressed by NCLT backlogs and capacity constraints.

So yes, the raw numbers are real. The conclusion being drawn from them isn’t what D&B itself concluded.

Fair criticism. I rechecked the underlying IRCC/IRB datasets and this chart overstated the current population by mixing cumulative administrative records with people presently in Canada.

The IRB had about 276,000 pending refugee claims as of June 30, 2026, not 2.35 million.

IRCC itself warns its asylum datasets should not be used as a count of asylum claimants currently residing in Canada because they can include people whose claims have since been finalized or whose status has changed.

I’m correcting the graphic rather than defending bad data. Evidence first.

But there is no evidence of a broad corporate exodus from the United States to Canada, nor that U.S. consumption or manufacturing is collapsing. The reality is diversification and selective relocation—not wholesale abandonment of the U.S. economy.
