Trying hard to be better everyday, mother of two amazing young women, born on Noongyar country, now living in Naarm on Wurundjeri lands. Views are my own.
Shocked by the tactics by management at UniSQ, I've just sent this letter https://t.co/tmxsbjDgUQ to @unisqvc to help bring the university back to the bargaining table so that @NTEUnion members @unisqaus have the same job security entitlements as other university staff.
Timely read. Solidarity with University of Southern Qld staff taking strike action tomorrow for job security & better conditions. @NTEUUsq @NTEUnion https://t.co/ehl99RXQFC
Members at UniSQ are striking for the first time in 20 years & they need your support.
In pursuit of a fair agreement with conditions no different to other unis.. their asks are being ignored. They're asking for:
• Redundancy to be a last resort & based on fair and objective criteria.
• The right to an independent review.
Support them by sending a letter, urging the VC to return to negotiations for a new agreement: https://t.co/sGM7u5H9gG
BREAKING: @NTEUnion Higher Ed members at Swinburne have voted in overwhelming numbers to STRIKE for the first time in a decade.
Management wants to scrap more than 140 rights and conditions from our Enterprise Agreement.
We’re fighting back. Join us ✊

Today we've seen the tireless efforts of grassroots NTEU members deliver some big wins on university governance. Thank you to the thousands of people who signed our pledge for better universities.
But our fight isn’t finished. 1/2
It's clear from @NTEUnion-commissioned @CntrFutureWork polling exorbitant VC salaries are wildly out of touch with public expectations. Why should a VC earn more than the PM? In today's @australian 4 in 5 people support capping VC pay. Sign our pledge https://t.co/dMIw7eu6iy
Congratulations ACT Government for passing the ground-breaking legislation to prevent unnecessary surgery on intersex infants and children. @NTEUnion is a proud supporting ally of the Darlington Statement on the rights of intersex people. Sign it here. https://t.co/z7YzZogqh1
Good to see the Commission has thrown out this shocking attempt by Monash Uni management to retroactively alter the enterprise agreement in an attempt to legitimate historic wage theft. Great work @NTEUVictoria members!
UNION WIN! This is a massive victory for Monash casuals and workers across Australia. Management's extraordinary bid to dodge wage theft liability worth millions of dollars rejected. Huge congratulations to everyone who banded together to fight this. https://t.co/QQvqw1Kodv
“Outrageous”, “Disgusting” “Pitiful” @TonySheldonNSW on obscene payrises to VCs, especially those who oversee massive wage theft. @AlisonBarnes25 is in there representing @NTEUnion members on the HE Accord demanding change ✊ sign the pledge of support now https://t.co/tlrxuQacuu
University of Newcastle Vice-Chancellor Alex Zelinsky took a $70,000 pay rise last year, taking his salary to near $1 million.
At the same time the university recorded a $38 million deficit, had to pay $6.2 million back in wage theft and have been trying to ram through a real wage cut for staff.
UNION POWER: late last year @NTEUnion members at Griffith Uni voted NO to management’s non-union enterprise agreement ballot. Members have now secured in-principle agreement for a new EA with a better pay rise, improvements to conditions and fended off attacks on staff rights.
Ooof. The AHEIA quote doing the rounds is so out of touch with how job security relates to the quality of work & the lived lives of workers in HE it's mind-boggling. These folks have no experience of precarity in HE, either as precarious worker or tenured in a land of precarity.
1/3 “There is some merit in more secure employment for 'treadmill academics'” are you f***ing kidding me? Some merit? More secure?Treadmill academics? We always ‘knew’ how they felt about their casual staff - now we KNOW. @NTEUnion members are furious #BetterUnisNWA
Is it any surprise that the Uni employer association is denying the insecure employment crisis in universities and blaming casuals? “… there’s not a right in Australia to have a job as an academic. You have to be good”. @NTEUnion #BetterUnisNWA https://t.co/qtO5GAr7dm
3/3 Here they are. Congrats to those who’ve settled agreements by understanding that job security = better workplaces, better universities & better lives. The rest are having trouble getting off the treadmill of exploitation! @NTEUnion members will take action to help them ✊✊✊
2/3 And let’s not even start on what they think about the education they are offering students if they think the work just comes off an endless treadmill!
Or that they know their employees are on an endless treadmill, and that has serious implications for health and safety.
