LOCKED OUT: More than 120 Medical Laboratory Science students at Namibian University of Science and Technology (NUST) are facing uncertainty over their academic progression and practical training placements
According to concerns raised by the NUST Medical Laboratory Science Society, 20 second- and third-year students in Group A have reportedly been informed that they do not, or no longer, meet applicable admission requirements based on their previous school results.
A further 55 Group B students who have completed their required modules have reportedly been told they cannot progress to third year due to limited spaces, while 48 Group C students with outstanding first- or second-year modules have reportedly been informed that they will not immediately progress.
A student who spoke to Network Media Hub under anonymity said, “Initially NUST was supposed to accept 50 students but they admitted 150. Now almost three years later we are being told we are a lot, and only students with high marks are allowed to continue.”
The students revealed that they pay approximately N$49 000 yearly for the course.
This is a developing story.
