Women are saying the husband was supposed to stop Clancy from being alone with her children - when Clancy herself said she was now fine, acted fine, and mental health professionals saw no reason to keep her from her kids

So what was he supposed to do? If he had tried to strip her of custody, these women would have said he was punishing a mother who was going through post-partum issues and a mental health crisis. And based on MA law - especially without the support of the psychiatrists - he would have been very unlikely to win - and would have been considered a bad, unsupportive husband for even trying to separate her from her children. If he divorced her, she would have received at least 50% custody, and the kids would be at constant risk rather than for a few minutes

The line of argumentation is ironic: the husband's great sin was being overly supportive of his wife and listening to doctors, all of which enabled her to do a great evil. And yet if he didn't, he would have lost his bid to strop her of custody anyway because the legal system and psychiatry favors women. No win scenario. He's lucky she didn't kill him. She probably would have if she wasn't afraid he'd be able to physically stop her. No such luck for the poor little children.
