@meteotek@redrummarts ztd is incredibly bad so i would recommend never playing it. it’s also not really much more meta than vlr. neither game goes as far as some of uchi’s pre zero escape work. ztd is also largely recycled ideas anyway (not that 999 and vlr weren’t)
@meteotek@redrummarts honestly my problem with the game is that it didn’t do this as much as i’d like and was mostly about finding passwords for computers and shit. i thought 999 did it better. but vlr still had a few cool things like that non canon alt ending
@ajwnofiewj83315@tobegundamu1@suzifumi the quarter munching thing is so overrated that even though it’s occasionally true i don’t really take people who claim it’s true seriously (like, basically no capcom or sega games were “quarter munchers”, and just because you can’t 1cc it first try doesn’t mean it is either)
@YoshischizoSTG@JumpyFeller it’s interesting to see this take because back in the day you’d see a lot of people complain that it was handholdy with the dumb fairy telling you where to go too much
@LocalBtnMasher@jackcrawford__ hurts my ego to say this but the truth is i was able to beat master ninja without cheesy strats and i still can’t 1cc final fight which i have been playing regularly for years
@The_Weeb_Crew there’s also the fact that there absolutely are Types of anime that will never come out again. they’ll never make a show like Flag again, or Gankutsuou, or Blue Sub 06, or Gasaraki, or Last Exile, etc
@The_Weeb_Crew seems like the quantity of good anime coming out hasn’t decreased, arguably increased slightly(?) (depends on what era you’re comparing it to) but the quantity of bad anime coming out has increased a lot more so it creates an illusion
@SquireGrooktook@megamega171@HerielP48 spikeout and god hand are really old though and pretty definitively show this isn’t the case. even urban reign and tekken force show this isn’t the case. hell, sifu gets a terrible rap with those guys but even sifu has inspo from those games in important ways
@LocalBtnMasher but have you considered that one of the reasons why sor3 sucks compared to 2 is that punching a guy has a crappy audiovisual effect in 3 and an awesome one in 2
@LocalBtnMasher im kinda just vibeposting out my ass but i do notice a trend in that a lot of arcade dudes (especially shmup guys) seem to really like visual novels which are like peak handholdy fiction - but this may be just due to weeb interest crossover and not actually be correlated.
@LocalBtnMasher like those really impressionist non-handholdy styles of prose fiction, or of cinema, i just wonder how the Mechanic Brain would handle it. could blader or electric underground or whoever enjoy Last Exile?
@LocalBtnMasher honestly im down for arcadebros to be as hyperbolic as possible considering the average person has terrible opinions on arcade design but i’d love to take guys who think the audiovisual aspect of video games is entirely tertiary to quality and see what they think of other art
@kamatsu8@Trey_Explainer To add on to what this guy is saying, if you’re serious about the Bible academically then the standard is the NRSV-UE (Unfortunately, the ESV has superior prose, so if you’re primarily interested in the bible for its influence on literature, then the ESV is fine)
@hellspatisserie the climax of that film is like a terrible version of eoe and all the “new” things it has to “say” are taken from a super robot wars plot line
