NIGERIANS, AS CAMPAIGNS KICK OFF — HERE COMES PETER OBI; WE URGE YOU TO LISTEN TO HIM

Nigerians, Section 98(1) of the 2026 Electoral Act provides that the presidential campaign for the January 16, 2027 presidential election commences today, August 19, 2026, and concludes 150 days later, on January 15, 2027.

Therefore, beginning today, Nigerians will witness 150 days of intensive political campaigns as presidential candidates present their ideas, records, programmes, and visions for the future of our country.

Among those candidates is the presidential flagbearer of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr Peter Gregory Obi, a 65-year-old former Governor of Anambra State. Today, his media office officially introduces him to Nigerians as the “Candidate of Conscience.”

The description is not merely a campaign slogan. It reflects a political standard rooted in integrity, prudence, frugality, accountability, and a commitment to putting public interest above personal or political advantage. In a political environment too often characterised by fiscal recklessness and transactional leadership, Peter Obi’s public profile stands out for his emphasis on responsible management of public resources and measurable outcomes.

For us in the Peter Obi Media Office (POMO), these 150 days are crucial. They represent a journey that will culminate on January 16, 2027, when Nigerians will decide not only who becomes President but also what kind of nation Nigeria will become.

This campaign must therefore go beyond the usual political contest. It is a choice between competing visions of Nigeria: one burdened by the old habits of waste, division, impunity, and broken promises, and another driven by competence, accountability, productivity, security, and hope.

At the forefront of this latter vision is Peter Obi, whose political identity has become closely associated with prudence, discipline, and public accountability. His message is clear: Nigeria must move from consumption to production. Government must reduce the cost of governance, strengthen education and healthcare, improve security, create opportunities for young Nigerians, and systematically pull our people out of poverty.

Peter Obi enters this campaign not as the candidate of one tribe, religion, or region, but as a Nigerian seeking the mandate of Nigerians based on his record, ideas, and vision. He has consistently maintained that leadership should be defined by competence, capacity, character, compassion, and commitment, rather than ethnicity, religion, or political entitlement.

Over the next 150 days, Nigerians will hear countless promises, witness rallies, encounter campaign slogans, and listen to passionate political arguments. But beyond the noise, one question must remain central:

Who possesses the integrity, discipline, competence, and courage required to confront Nigeria’s economic hardship, insecurity, unemployment, poverty, and institutional decay?

Peter Obi believes the answer begins with restoring trust between government and the people. He has pledged to reduce the cost of governance, strengthen transparency and accountability, invest in productive sectors of the economy, and ensure that public resources serve the public good rather than political privilege.

His candidacy is therefore about more than winning an election. It is a call to Nigerians who believe that public office should be an instrument of service, not personal enrichment; that leadership should unite rather than divide; and that every Nigerian child, regardless of birthplace, ethnicity, religion, or background, deserves the opportunity to succeed.

From today until January 16, 2027, every speech, debate, manifesto, policy proposal, and campaign stop should be judged against one standard:

PRESIDENTIAL CAMPAIGN

My dear Nigerians,

As the 2027 presidential campaign officially begins, I call on every Nigerian to reflect deeply on the state of our nation and the kind of country we want to leave for the next generation.

Nigeria stands at a critical crossroads. Our people are facing a difficult economic reality. The rising cost of food and essential goods has placed enormous pressure on families.

Millions of young Nigerians are searching for meaningful employment and opportunities, while businesses are struggling with high operating costs and an uncertain economic environment.

At the same time, insecurity continues to threaten communities across the country. Too many families have lost loved ones, homes and livelihoods to terrorism, banditry, kidnapping and other forms of violence.

Our farmers need security to return to their farms, our children need safe schools, and every Nigerian deserves to live without fear.

Our education and healthcare systems require urgent investment. Our infrastructure must be improved, our institutions strengthened, and public resources managed with greater
transparency and accountability.

These challenges are serious, but Nigeria is full of hope. We have the people, resources and potential to build a prosperous and secure nation. What we need is leadership with the competence, courage and commitment to put the interests of Nigerians first.

This is why I have chosen to work with His Excellency, Peter Obi, on the Obi-Kwankwaso ticket.

Our partnership is not about region, religion or personal ambition. It is about Nigeria. We believe in a country where government serves the people, where hard work is rewarded, where young people can build successful futures at home, and where every citizen has a fair opportunity to prosper.

To our young people, women, workers, farmers, entrepreneurs and professionals, I ask you to join us in this journey.

NIGERIA, IPOB AND THE BATTLE OVER THE NARRATIVE

Several developments over the last 48 hours need to be looked at together, because when we connect the dots, serious questions emerge.

More than 20 people have reportedly been killed in Kokoli, Borgu LGA of Niger State, with over 300 households reportedly displaced. The Borgu–Kainji corridor has already raised concerns over killings, kidnappings and militant activity.

So I ask:
Where is the overwhelming security response BEFORE communities are slaughtered?
At almost the same time, Nigeria's newly established 15 Brigade, alongside the DSS and Agunechemba Vigilante Group, carried out an operation around the Ihiala–Ogbaru boundary in Anambra.
The Nigerian Army says it destroyed three “suspected IPOB/ESN camps,” killed three alleged members, arrested three others and recovered weapons and explosives.
But suspected is the operative word.
Where is the independently verifiable evidence that these people or camps belonged to IPOB or ESN?
Who identified the dead?
What evidence establishes their membership?
Who owned the weapons?
Where is the forensic chain of custody?
Will independent journalists and human-rights investigators be allowed to examine what happened?
These questions matter because once “IPOB/ESN terrorists” appears in a Nigerian military statement, that designation can travel internationally as established fact. And if you are unaware, that is the fact these liars are trying to establish internationally.
And look at the timing.
Nigeria is deepening counter-terrorism and intelligence cooperation with Washington through the U.S.–Nigeria Joint Working Group.
Biafrans, I am asking something more important:
What picture of IPOB and the South-East is Nigeria presenting to Washington and its other international security partners?????

If you have been following the BIAFRA MORNING INTELLIGENCE BRIEFING, YOU OUGHT TO HAVE PICKED UP THAT OUR PEACEFUL SELF-DETERMINATION IS THE TARGET WHEN THEIR 15 BRIGADE WAS ESTABLISHED.

Criminality exists everywhere, including the South-East. Anyone committing murder, kidnapping or terrorism should be investigated and prosecuted.
But criminality does not automatically prove IPOB membership.
A gun is not an IPOB membership card.
A forest camp is not automatically an IPOB camp.
And a military press statement is not a judicial determination of guilt.
Meanwhile, communities elsewhere continue suffering killings, kidnappings and displacement from acknowledged jihadist, terrorist and armed groups.
The same evidentiary standards, urgency and accountability must apply everywhere.

BRITAIN MUST ALSO ANSWER QUESTIONS

This comes as the UK Parliament's International Development Committee subjects Britain's strategic relationship with Nigeria to greater scrutiny.
The Committee describes the partnership as a “grand strategic bet” and is demanding clearer monitoring of Nigeria's insecurity, governance and humanitarian challenges.

If Britain is strengthening security cooperation with Nigeria, then human rights, rule of law and accountability for how that security capacity is used must accompany it.
AND NOW ANOTHER INTERNATIONAL VOICE IS SPEAKING ABOUT BIAFRA
Israeli strategic-policy researcher Noga Arbel has publicly called for Biafran freedom and criticised Britain's historical and continuing influence over Nigeria.
IPOB has welcomed her intervention and says it strengthens the argument for international scrutiny of Biafran self-determination and the continued imprisonment of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
But accuracy matters.
This is not official Israeli recognition of Biafra.
It is not an Israeli government policy announcement.
It matters because another voice within the international strategic-policy space is discussing Biafra.
And that brings me back to what I have repeatedly said:

BIAFRA MUST INSTITUTIONALISE.
