@KarenJBateson@BroniaArnott@ParentInfantFdn We continue to progress our work in Flintshire. Fabulous recognition of progress and highlighting such an important area for all our future.
@Mr_PaintPots@MOW204 So what would you say keeps the whole of the EY sector from knowing this, David? Tiredness? Overwhelm? How do we help people to confront their own biases? Denial is perfectly understandable in adults, yet it harms children. How do we find more curiosity for uncomfortable things?
@suzannezeedyk@MOW204 I think a large part of it is simply lack of understanding. It is extraordinary that attachment and the biological need for a sense of safety are not major topics in early years qualifications curricula. I hope things are changing. Every EY setting needs a culture of nurture.
@Mr_PaintPots@MOW204@TIGERSEYAcad This is why I think yr new Enhanced Apprenticeship on Play & Attachment is important. If t early years sector doesn't hv a good understanding of the biological need for safety, then we can't create really good EY practice, especially in a tired, undervalued sector.
Sometimes whn a child is disappointed, they slump. That's okay with us adults. It's no bother. Other times, children protest. They push back, angry. We adults tend to like that a lot less. Our culture doesn't like angry children. So we tend to control them, rather than help.
“By truly valuing all children, whatever circumstances they are born into, we create a healthier citizen, less dependent on the state in the future and more able to rise to the many challenges of modern-day life.”

We need to think differently about children who aren’t fine at school. We need to stop saying the problem is them. We need to stop the interventions which assume their feelings are irrational. That’s what I’m talking about next week. Come and join me. https://t.co/t5uUdpVnb9
I believe this is so important, I’m tweeting it again:
“The great tragedy is the lack of vocational education in schools. Not everybody is designed for the academic. I feel this has been forgotten for a long time.”

Childhood is not a race to see how quickly a child can read, write and count. It is a small window of time to learn and develop at the pace that is right for each individual child. Earlier is not better. ~ Magda Gerber #parenting
What if "growth, growth, growth" wasn't about economic growth.
What if it we focussed on growing wellbeing, social capital, relationships...
What if it was babies' and children's growth that we cared about?

12 yr old thug arrested for drug running’. Why does the headline read that way? Why doesn’t it read ‘12 yr old boy rescued from drug gang’? Why does our language so often promote condemnation rather than compassion?
