@Birdyword@jbarro Lots of progressive folks in the US are happy to live with higher crime if it means less people incarcerated. Its psychotic but makes a certain logical sense
@wideofthepost A scandal is "a widely publicized event, action, or rumor involving a perceived transgression of moral, ethical, or legal norms"...how does Platner sexting six women while he was a newlywed, and now running for US Senate, not qualify?
@redsteeze *ODing inside Viper Room then getting pushed to the sidewalk outside to avoid Depp and others getting in trouble. Let’s keep Grogu’s fate historically accurate
@MilesTaylorUSA “There’s a tidal shift happening”
names 6 people that belong in Howard Stern’s wack pack from the 90’s. Marjorie the Retard, Crackhead Tucker, etc.
@jbarro@DuvalEaton Umm you know GOP office holders have openly gay staffers that are normal and not driven by “shame and the closet”….right? What year do you think this is?
@michaelbd Just glad that Trump does not make decisions about this very important stuff by listening to opinion polls or Vance/MBD types.
And “transforming the world” is a straw man. Actually argue against eliminating the threat from Iran’s mullahocracy if that is your position.
@guypbenson The solution to turning off this evil garbage is for Mrs. Kirk to sue candace owens, not settle, and get a massive judgment.
Litigation is not fun, but being accused of murdering your husband has to be worse. Her claims would survive any anti-SLAPP motion IMO
@michaelbd I’m not sure @EWErickson said the antisemitic podcast bros “represent nobody,” the point he made is they don’t influence Trump and don’t represent a large part of the GOP base…which seems obviously true
Well put...but I still think that people who fall far conspiracies are essentially waving their hands in the air and saying "hey! look how gullible and naive I am!"
I more sympathetic than most to people who fall for conspiracies -- because reality is hard, and weird, and complex -- and if you think about it too much, no matter how bright and well balanced you are -- it is easy to lose your mind.
There is a reason a high percentage of very thoughtful/smart scientist/philosophers went bat-sh*t insane. Thinking about why we are here, and what it all means, isn't easy, fun, or necessarily rewarding.
It is especially hard if you are living in a time of moral relativism, when everything is up for grabs!
I consider myself a classic political Liberal, in that I favor an enlightenment understanding of a healthy society --constitutional democracies with protections of basic individual/group rights including freedom of speech, faith, and ways of living.
Yet history shows liberalism only works when there's also a shared foundational moral order—not uniformity in thin culture, but enough overlapping thick culture that people restrain themselves from pushing freedoms to socially destructive extremes, even when legally permitted.
You might in theory allow "anything goes" but people respect others enough to restrain themselves from going too rogue.
You might legally permit offensive speech, but people restrain themselves out of mutual respect
PS: Restraining themselves isn't exactly right word, because most people often don't even "think to do that" because it is so obviously destructive. Shame exists.
@whignewtons (btw even in my lawyer-saturated jdx, if you are a member of the bar and a hard worker, high paying jobs are EASY to find)
The only "NO!" answer should be to the question "should someone go to law school right out of undergrad?"
3/3
@whignewtons It is a huge challenge, but will be the fastest and most rewarding 3 years of your life. As long as a law-curious person is realistic about the cost and the job market in their area, it can be a great choice
