@f4micom I remember when monitor refresh rates started improving past 60 Hz, people didn't know the default in Windows was still 60 Hz and had to change the settings manually.
@fallenheyya@rowanfornow It works because implicit and explicit multiplication use two different sets of rules, both have their uses. The implicit notation reduces the number of brackets and signs you need to type. Division sings are still needed in Excel and programming regardless of implicity.
@guaranteed2p@lynquynparque You won't have textbook notation in Excel or programming. Division sign is mandatory when you move from paper and calculators to anything more advanced than that. There is no real difference between / or รท. Hell, in Finland we used : for some reason. They all function the same.
@YeahSureWynaut Implicit vs. explicit grouping in division and multiplication. Both are used intentionally in different use cases. Some calculators support both types of writing. However the "gain" of implied multiplication is only really noticable when writing single-line equations.
@cfcmisha7@fionasins_ Also do you know how questions work? If a person already knew the answer to a question they were about to ask, why would they finish asking it?
@AnalyticaCamil1 People should learn about strong and weak grouping of operands and their uses and come back talking shit after that. Both have their uses, and both are used intentionally. In strong grouping 2(1+2) and 2*(1+2)have different behavior, but in weak grouping they're the same.
@EtherealMist124 The argument of nobody over the age 12 should use the division symbol is a bit silly, because even in my childhood all common calculators didn't support fractions, and I'm only 30. Most available calculators back then were single-line, which meant fiddling with brackets, A LOT.
@NotTaylorutt@Astigadigs@ShitpostRock Honestly they could have made either V more recognizable with a more interesting outfit. Shepard's N7 outfit does a lot of work making his John Video Game buzzcut more recognizable.
@SigmaSalt@karimthemghribi@theo It's 2 clicks to access. *Right* click volume icon in task bar -> open mixer -> mixer opens up in a separate settings window that stays open.
@hirashi_05@SO_03L Most people have no hands-on experience with these devices as they're mostly niche overpriced tech. Also some people who are careful with their devices might prefer form over function as they never risk breaking their devices, while other people prefer function over form.
