#OnThisDay 1758 Horatio Nelson was born in #Norfolk He joined @RoyalNavy as an Ordinary Seaman at 12 years old in HMS RAISONNABLE but was quickly promoted to Midshipman and officer training. In a 34 year career he fought in over 14 battles until his death in 1805 at Trafalgar.

Amid the annual debate about the use of the 'A' Bomb and VJ Day 75, it is worth saying that although the MSM still suffers from collective amnesia about the war in the Far East...Historians have gone a long way toward redressing the balance. Those that fought are not forgotten.
