Lab headed by Dr. Austen Ganley @AucklandUni, researching ribosomal DNA, random DNA and conducting acoustic experiments on Saccharomyces cerevisiae yeast.
High-level gene expression patterns in hybrid species are consistent across fungi, plants and animals, reflecting common responses to hybridisation regardless of species or even kingdom #openaccess@TheAtavism@GanleyLab

Another shoutout to Emma Macdonald @ems368 who handed in her Masters thesis on rDNA copy number variation in mammalian lineages. Sheโs making the leap into the corporate world next year and we wish her all the very best! ๐๐
And thatโs a wrap, folks! Ganley Lab had their last lab โmeetingโ for the year!! ๐ ๐
We saw some ups and downs this year with virtual conferences in lockdown and (many) failed experiments. Nevertheless, we soldiered on!
Merry Christmas and happy summer to you all!!
A shoutout to @AlastairHarris6 who has handed in his PhD thesis on the effects of sound on yeast fermentation. We are really excited to see what heโs doing in the coming months with his distillery. We wish you the best with your endeavours! ๐ป
We are super stoked to have our lab head Dr. Austen Ganley presenting a talk, and Emma Macdonald @ems368 (Research Assistant) and Atharva Bhide @Gloomy_Halloumi (Masters student) presenting their research posters at @faobmb2021!!
Hello all! Weโd like to thank everyone for their good wishes for Ganley Lab being given a #marsdenfund.
Please note, Atharva (@Gloomy_Halloumi) runs the Twitter account so he/I will let Austen know about your kind comments and messages of congratulation!
@shotliverfreak Hi there, Iโm one of Austenโs Masters students and my name is Atharva (@Gloomy_Halloumi). I run the lab Twitter. I will definitely let Austen know of your well wishes! Cheers ๐
We are absolutely over the moon to receive a #MarsdenFund this year! ๐ ๐
Our project, โWhere lies the treasure? Using random DNA to find the functional regions of genomes.โ aims to not only pioneer techniques in synthesising long double-stranded random DNA (1/2)
@Jaylene74 Hi there, Iโm Atharva (@Gloomy_Halloumi), one of Austenโs Masters students and I run this account. Thank you for the kind wishes. I will definitely pass them on to Austen. ๐
@MMEG_UoA Hi Rochelle/Constantine Lab, one of the Masterโs students (Atharva @Gloomy_Halloumi) runs the Twitter and not Austen himself, but I will happily say yes to an OGH drink on his behalf ๐
But also integrate these random DNA fragments into eukaryotic genomes and assess their interactions with cellular machinery. In doing so, we hope to answer some key questions surrounding genomic sequence functionality (2/2).
Thank you for your support ๐
