The Widow and the Bangles ♥️
Once, in the late 1800s, there was a poor widow named Subbamma living in a small hut near the Krishna river, close to the Indrakeeladri Hill.
Her husband had died early.
She had no children.
Her only treasure were two thin gold bangles - relics of her marriage - and her unshakable faith in Kanaka Durgamma.
Every Friday, she would walk up to the temple barefoot, with a small flower and a spoonful of jaggery, and sit before Durga Devi, praying:
"Amma, I have no one but You. Don’t let me drown. Don’t let me forget You."
Years went by.
One year, a terrible drought struck.
Fields dried.
People begged for food.
Subbamma had no money left. She was starving, reduced to eating boiled leaves.
One Friday, weakened by hunger but still determined, she somehow climbed Indrakeeladri, staggering to Devi’s sanctum.
Sitting there, her heart broke.
She whispered to Kanaka Durgamma:
"Amma, I have nothing left but these bangles.
I offer them to You. Take them. But take me too.
Either lift me, or merge me into You.
I can’t live without dignity."
Tears streaming, she removed her bangles, went near the inner sanctum’s silver door frame (which the public cannot usually touch), and hung the bangles on the edge of the door, secretly.
No one saw her.
She prayed with folded hands, closed her eyes, and said:
"Amma, my life is yours. Do what you wish."

The Miracle ✨️
That night, the temple priest had a terrifying vision.
Durga Devi appeared in his dream - furious yet radiant - and thundered:
"Who dares to leave a gold offering without My permission being sought?
Find it. Accept it. And return blessings.
The one who offered is not just a devotee — she is a part of My breath."
The priest woke up, searched the door, and found the two thin bangles gleaming on the frame.
The next morning, the temple committee tried to find the person, but no one came forward.
Meanwhile, Subbamma - too weak - was sitting under a tree near the hill’s foot, ready to faint.
Suddenly, a richly dressed woman, face covered with a red veil, approached her and placed a small cloth pouch in her lap.
Subbamma tried to ask who it was, but the woman simply said:
"Live with dignity, child.
Worship quietly.
When your time comes, I will come again."
And the woman vanished into the morning mist.
When Subbamma opened the pouch, it was filled with enough gold coins to live comfortably for the rest of her life.
She lived simply, offering annadanam (food donation) regularly to pilgrims and saints, till her last breath.
Before her death, she told the villagers:
"Don’t think She only listens to kings and rich men.
If you cry from the soul, Amma will rush barefoot through the clouds for you.
I’ve seen Her. I’ve touched Her feet.
She wears no gold — Her jewel is Her love for Her children."

Even a small act of total love can shake the Devi from the heavens and make Her come down.
