I am a landlord who provides housing to many formerly homeless people. My tenants come to me through various DC NGOs that help.

@PeakToil @marycheh @nikkimcentee17 @DDOTDC Basically, it gives a bike a chance to safely cross the street when no one is coming, without cars getting all angry about it. The intersection is a nasty place for bikes. The less time we stay there, the better.

If an immediate safety improvement is needed, @DDOTDC will often build out tactical safety infrastructure (think curb extensions, plastic bollards, etc).

While quick + cost-effective, these temporary materials often fall short on quality, safety standards, & durability.
