@ProgDirectorate He hadn't given himself completely to the darkness yet. Clone Wars adds a lot of context to Anakin's actions during Order 66. Anakin may have had a subconscious understanding of what he had to do, and why he had to do it after the Brother gives him visions of his dark future.

Kylo's saber was great for visual storytelling, he forced the bleeding and cracked his crystal, hence the need for the vents. It represents his struggle in understanding his destiny. You don't get that if they're synthetic.
