@superhumanity@trickyblickey@NathanJRobinson Given that reality, once it was clear that arms embargo was seriously on the table I suspect Israel would back down. Certainly in the face of genocide, it would be worth trying. 2/2
@superhumanity@trickyblickey@NathanJRobinson Also in terms of "foolproof." Analysts disagree about whether without US arms and ammunition, Israel would be in deep trouble within 2 weeks or whether it would take 2 months. But Israel would rapidly lose its ability to do the shit it does in the face of an arms embargo. 1/2
@superhumanity@trickyblickey@NathanJRobinson she promised to "do everything in her power" which apparently did not include following the law and cutting off weapons sales to Israel.
@superhumanity@trickyblickey@NathanJRobinson Israel has not stopped committing genocide for one moment. They occasionally slow down, to reload or due to implicit Us threats.. But there have been no cease fires, just slight slowing that never lasts.. Stopping Israel requires the threat of conditioning weapons sales & aid.
@superhumanity@trickyblickey@NathanJRobinson Did not use the word vow. While Israel was committing genocide, she pledged "unwavering " "unequivocal" support for Israel while they were committing genocide. Enabling genocide is supporting genocide, whatever else you say.
@superhumanity@trickyblickey@NathanJRobinson "Isolationism" is such an interesting term. If our government stopped murdering and supporting murder all over the world, maybe we would be *less* isolated. The term for someone who mainly interacts socially with others through murder is "Serial killer."
@JoyceCarolOates Also handy for certain kinds of research. For instance, in about 45 minutes, I was able to to find the exact books and chapters in Aristotle''s Politics that show he thought work was for slaves, foreigners & women, so male citizens could concentrate on politics, war & law.
@JoyceCarolOates I'm a natural speed reader (though I also know how to slow down.) If I'm going to read something requiring intense concentration, I will speed read it first to get a feel for it, a sort of mental map, then do a careful reading with better intuition on how to interact with it.
@JoyceCarolOates As George Crochet says, self-checkout costs retailers money through increased theft. Stores are trying to walk it back/limit it. AI will be this on steroids because it can successfully do about 5% at most of what is claimed for it.
@Divitissimus@JewishCurrents But the post you are replying to did not say "all Jews." It said "the Jewish establishment." Given that the Jewish establishment is overwhelmingly Zionist that is fair enough. Anti-Zionist Jewish organizations are marginalized, excluded from the Jewish establishment.
@gbrew24 If he were serious he would end shipments all US weapons, military & law enforcement equipment and supplies until Bibi backed off. Biden did not do this, and neither has he, so they were deeply unserious about their objections.
@DougHenwood Yep, just like Biden's (very occasional) performative annoyance at Bibi. Biden could have, and Trump could stop this in its tracks. Freeze shipments of weapons, ammunition, military and law enforcement equipment to Israel until they cut out. Completely legal.
@grist There is also a continuing cost. Don't know if it still true, but the statistic used to be that even though they go wrong less often, when repairs are needed they are so much more expensive that maintenance costs are higher than for above ground lines.
@bateau_ivre1871@NathanJRobinson In the actual essay, he mentioned that he had heard of and seen quotes from Sheenhan in some of Noam Chomsky's work, but never previously read anything by him. The previous mentions were what motivated him to buy the book when he saw it in a used book store.
