@simonhancock_uk@thervd Cutting their costs by 20% only means that the tax income is 80% of what it would have been had they not cut their costs. It doesn’t wipe the tax income out.
@implausibleblog@GreenJennyJones@Feargal_Sharkey this because it takes away from the sensationalism of the narrative. Personally, I think the system is far from perfect, but it’s not the Wild West that Sharkey seems to get away with portraying. (4/4)
@implausibleblog@GreenJennyJones@Feargal_Sharkey … system of audits and assurance that ofwat requires water companies to commission from independent technical assurance providers. These experts make sure that companies’ reporting systems are up to scratch and that nothing gets missed. The media doesn’t seem to grasp… (3/?)
@WG_RumblePants I think you may have been misled. This isn’t the Caddington I played at. Although it was 14 years ago, I’m sure it can’t have changed this much.
@STAUNCHcampaign @FiveByFiveTimes @Feargal_Sharkey The link you’ve sent only includes 3 readings from this year. That’s not really enough to determine a long term trend. Ecoli levels would vary significantly within a year depending on flow rate within the river and any recent pollution events. Levels are likely to reduce back 1/2
@FiveByFiveTimes @Feargal_Sharkey@STAUNCHcampaign It’s a scientific fact that faeces (human or cattle) can cause an increase in pollution in watercourses. The banks of the River Cam did not appear to be well managed in this area (last time I was there) to prevent cattle faeces from entering the river.
@FiveByFiveTimes @Feargal_Sharkey@STAUNCHcampaign There have been cattle there for a long while yes. I’d be interested to see evidence that levels are vastly higher lately. Most of the “increase” in pollution that people think they see is in fact due to these things starting to be measured (along with increased media interest).
@Hippiepig@Feargal_Sharkey@STAUNCHcampaign First, river flow causes anything washed into the river to be mixed in and get washed down stream. So it would cause levels to increase throughout the river although the effect would be diluted as it gets further downstream. Second, the measurement was taken “locally”.
We are having a Fun Day on Bank Holiday Monday 27th May 11am start. We have lots of various food vendors along with Bouncy castles and much more.
A big thankyou to @LovettSalesLet for sponsoring the event and there will be a collection point for donations for @StNeotsFoodbank
