@richardl1000 For me, Luxembourg is the 8th country. Last one was NL for 7 years (far longer than I had lived anywhere previously). We have arrived and are up to our ears in errands, and house-setting-up stuff. Maybe in a week or 2, when things have settled a bit we can meet up in the city.

@kim_foye Spelling was absolutely my worst subject. I was always in like the 25th percentile on state tests. At some point I started playing sick to avoid spelling tests. I couldn't spell a thing. As I grew, the more I read and the more I wrote the better it got, so I'm with you on that

@nofearofwaves Fond mid 80s flashback. I remember when it was possible to get detention just for having a walkman in your backpack at school. Those ridiculous Nintendo wrist watches, nano-pets, trapper keepers, and all New Kids memorabilia were banned. Now kids have mini super computers :)

#tncohort A6 I have absolutely loved every minute of my online externship. Online learning is increasingly the future, and I'm fortunate to have gotten a hands on tour, and it's been great to work with some amazing pros who have given me invaluable advice about virtual teaching.

@nofearofwaves Maybe, have each one of them write down some profound philosophical truth about life or the world that they think is manifestly clear and 100% true. Then have them revisit that statement throughout the year.

#tncohort 2. I try, wherever possible to have students look up and define key words themselves, rather than feeding it to them. I also like to have students write their own test questions and answer keys.

@kim_foye I like that a lot. Very ambitious. What's the annual competition where people try to write the worst possible opening line to a generic novel "It was a dark and stormy night ..."? That might be really fun to have students enter to see who can write the corniest opening line.

@jana61836602 Right on. Discussion forum participation, required forms to fill out, meeting assignment targets on time, reading and watching course materials - all those require constant student attention, and it is super easy to fall off that wheel :)

#tncohort A3. I'm currently working with online students. think the best example is students taking responsibility for the basics - working computer, internet access, Email account, and knowledge of how to use the school's learning management system.

@nofearofwaves I get a lot of success from it. The idea isn't mine. I had this 80+ year old professor who made us do that all semester long in a World History class and it really worked for me.

#tncohort A5 I want my students to become skeptical about everything. I want them to ask questions, no how to do research, and to pursue source materials to form their own opinions. I want them to view learning as the ultimate form of playing around like when they were babies.
