@Mattyy1986@hayleymagill Not missing the point at all. I’m pointing my out the hypocrisy of saying “the public always assumes I’m paid loads when I’m not” whilst at the same time making an assumption that someone else is paid loads, when they’re more than likely not.
@r_hynd@hayleymagill Not everyone has a “company” - plenty of sole traders out there for whom all these oft-cited company structure tax benefits aren’t available. Your plumber is likely VAT registered so 20% of turnover goes to HMRC straight away, before we even get to tax on income after expenses.
@hayleymagill Probably not much different to what your plumber is actually “taking home” from their £95. You’re highlighting a public misconception as to how much your profession earns, but you’re displaying exactly the same lack of understanding as to how finances work for the self employed.
@hayleymagill 1. Then why the emphasis on him charging you £95/hr?
2. And comparing it again to your salaried wage.
Nb. He/she isn’t actually “making” £95 in that hour: they’re taking home a small fraction of that after many, many expenses are covered. It’s simply not comparable.
@hayleymagill 2/2 …possibly rent and rates on premises, insurances, indemnities, tax, consumables… the list is endless. Do not try to compare a salary with an hourly rate for a trade: you simply can’t extrapolate the latter to make the former. To do so is naive in the extreme.
