The Belgian duo has stopped.

They completed 124 Yards.
124 hours of running.
Ignored 124 chances to quit.

A new World Record. 👏

[Jared Beasley @DbJared]

Yard 109.

It does go on.
What's left?

The World Record.
Just 10 Yards away.
Ivo Steyeart and Merijn Geerts are chasing it. 🇧🇪

Australian firefighter and ultrarunner PHIL GORE ran 152 hours, totaling 633 miles.

He used the Backyard format of doing 4.167 miles every hour, on the hour. A format created by Lazarus Lake, the mastermind of the Barkley Marathons and more.

Phil collapsed on his 153rd Yard.

Vaccinate your ruminants for BTV in the UK and do it now... this is not going to slow for months...

Jodrell Bank is the most visible causality of UKRI’s short sighted ‘vision’ for science, but as you’ll see below, there are many other valuable UK facilities and collaborations at risk. We became aware of the problem in the autumn of last year. It is not a result of the overall funding settlement for science after the spending review, which was quite generous I would say in the circumstances. Neither as far as we can tell is it a direct decision by ministers (all of whom have now gone in any case). Rather the problems appears to have been caused by senior management at UKRI focusing on short term economic ‘impact’ (whatever that means) rather than doing their job as custodians of the foundations of science. What must happen now is that the new ministerial team make the time (and space ;-)) to review the upcoming catastrophe, and instruct UKRI to do their job and focus on making Britain the best place in the world to do science, now and in the future.

[Brian Cox @ProfBrianCox]

This is the result of many bad legacy decisions taken by UKRI hastily and without proper consultation, overseen by a government department that no longer exists. Surely the new @andyburnham government will want to take time to review this.

In new study led by Bernadeta Dadonaite, we show many influenza HAs (H5, H7, H9, H1, H2, H3) can use avian or human MHC-II to enter cells.

We then use novel combo of deep mutational scanning & cryoEM to define how H5 HA binds tufted duck MHC-II

Courtney Dauwalter wins Hardrock for a fourth time--breaks course record. 26 hours 3 minutes. 💪

[Jonathan Levitt @JWLevitt]

And that's a win and course record for Jennifer Lichter in her debut 100 miler.

Jenn's story is amazing. Grew up an orphan in Columbia, was adopted by a family in the midwest. Got into trail running in 2020, and is your 2026 Western States Champion!

@DrTregoning My interpretation from his letter was that Ian chapman was as backfooted as everyone else by the new ‘strategy’, and the ‘pause’ to restructure is a front to scrabble alignment with new, wholly unclear and ill thought out government priorities… would love to hear how wrong I am

Bitterly disappointing that the UK has lost its Measles elimination status again.

RFK Jr seriously needs to keep his mouth shut. You don’t get to tell women to “just breastfeed” in a country with no national paid leave, no guaranteed paid pumping breaks at work, no affordable childcare, and workplaces that barely accommodate lactating parents. Breastfeeding isn’t just a choice, it’s a system dependent behavior. If you want to promote it, you’d better start with the systems that make it possible.

The reason why our local Blackbirds were going absolutely nuts at dusk today: this magnificent migrant Long-eared Owl perched on a bale handler behind the barns here at Hillwell, Shetland.
