When US slapped tariffs on India, many thought it was game over for our exporters after all, US accounts for nearly 1/5th of our total export.

But instead of shrinking, our exports grew.
Merchandise exports actually rose 6.7% YoY in September - what a solid comeback in the face of a trade shock.

Exporters found new buyers across Asia, Europe, and the Middle East.
Cotton garment exports to the US fell 25%, but shipments to the UAE, France, and Japan soared.
Marine products grew over 60% in China, Vietnam, and Thailand.
Basmati rice exports to Iran jumped sixfold. Carpets found new homes in Canada and Sweden.

Trump’s tariff couldn't break us, instead it made India more resilient, more diversified, and more global.

Trump just played a new card in the U.S.–China trade war.

He’s open to cutting tariffs only if China agrees to:
👉 Buy U.S. soybeans again
👉 Stop fentanyl exports
👉 Lift rare earth restrictions

With total tariffs now at 130%, this isn’t about trade — it’s about rare earths, which China dominates (90% refining share). Trump’s pushing before the APEC summit to make China stop weaponizing them.

WHAT IT MEANS FOR INDIA:
Costlier Chinese goods means new export openings in electronics, textiles, and chemicals.
China’s slowdown also means cheaper oil (down ~15%), easing inflation and boosting the rupee.

So, India could quietly emerge as the biggest winner in this.
