Drawing tips from @GavinSnider! #FrankLloydWrightFridays
🌀 Curves are easy. Straight lines are hard.
🖼️ The building is already a work of art. You just need to get it down on paper.
⚪ It’s lighter than you think. Don’t overwork the facade.
🌑 It’s darker than you think. Don’t be afraid of bold shadows.
🚕 The taxis and the food carts and the people walking by are just as interesting as the building itself.
👤 The curved concrete is a backdrop for shadows. Late in the day, the sun drops low and the trees of Central Park are projected onto it.

Tonight is the @nyknicks home opener at Madison Square Garden. I painted the crowd and the court and the concave ceiling of the storied arena for New York or Nowhere. Here's the 18" x 24" watercolor in my studio.
I spent the summer painting skylines with @gethappymedium. Here are five studies from the Greenpoint waterfront workshop, painted once a month from June through October.
Some have the garden's looming eviction on their minds. Others are just here to escape for the afternoon, to sit alone and read under a tree, to catch up with friends on picnic blankets, to sketch the scene while they still can.
Step into Elizabeth Street Garden on a Saturday afternoon. Slip past the sphinx and the stone lions standing sentinel. Trees cast long shadows, flowers bloom from beds and vases, vines creep across brick walls. Between a scattering of statues, people fill every inch of the lawn.
