I am Nityapriya Surya Agarwal, and I have endured severe physical, emotional, sexual, and psychological abuse at the hands of my husband, Surya Agarwal, MD of OCM Pvt. Ltd.
After being forced out of my matrimonial home with my daughter, Tara (now 16 months old), in November, I returned to the residence yesterday before her preschool begins on 9 June.
Since returning, I have faced repeated attempts to deny my right to reside in my matrimonial home, dismiss my allegations of abuse, restrict my access to food, and separate me from my child. Members of my husband's family, including Ajay Agarwal and Neena Agarwal, have refused to support or protect me despite earlier assurances. Together with Surya's sister, Sonia Agarwal Bajaj, they have been repeatedly shouting at me, intimidating me, taking threatening stances, and using abusive language.
There has been constant hostility, screaming, intimidation, and efforts to undermine my role as Tara's mother.
I have sought assistance from the Mumbai Police five times in less than 24 hours, yet I do not feel that my concerns regarding my safety and my daughter's welfare have been adequately addressed. Despite repeated requests for help, the situation has continued to escalate.
I am deeply concerned about my daughter's safety.
There was a prior incident involving Surya and the children of a close family member, Kavya, his cousin's wife. During that incident, Surya allegedly engaged in aggressive and intimidating behaviour towards the children, and there is video evidence of vandalism that occurred during the episode. I personally attempted to intervene and stop the destruction and intimidation. Following the incident, the family immediately removed their children from the residence. Having personally experienced abuse at Surya's hands, this incident has only heightened my concerns about exposing my daughter to the same environment.
Yesterday, after I first reached out to the police for assistance, Surya took Tara from my care on the third floor and brought her to the second floor. This was the first time Tara had seen her father in more than six months. A child of her age needs time, patience, and a sense of safety to reconnect with a parent after such a long separation. At no point have I blocked Surya's access to Tara while he has been present.
Another significant concern relates to Neena Agarwal, Tara's grandmother. Last year, when Neena Agarwal was hospitalised following a suicide attempt, Surya's reaction appeared indifferent and dismissive, which deeply alarmed me. I later became aware of information suggesting there may have been multiple suicide attempts in the past.
Given these concerns, combined with Surya's history of aggression and violence, I was uncomfortable sending Tara alone into that environment following our separation. Instead, I repeatedly invited Surya and his family to visit Tara at her maternal home. I never prevented Neena Agarwal from speaking to Tara over calls or spending time with her during visits.
For over six months, there was an open invitation from both me and my parents for Surya to visit or speak to Tara. During that period, he never visited her, never called or asked about her during major festivals, and did not contact her even on her first birthday. Despite this, I am now being accused of keeping him away from his daughter.
Since returning to the matrimonial home, I have also faced interference with the childcare arrangements I put in place for Tara. I had appointed a new nanny because the previous nanny was, in my experience, dismissive of my concerns, frequently undermined me as a mother, and unwilling to follow my instructions regarding Tara's care.
Today, my daughter's nanny, whom I had personally re-engaged to care for Tara, was fired an hour ago after been threatened multiple times yesterday. There have also been attempts to intimidate and exclude members of my support staff. My lady's maid was locked out without access to her belongings, including her footwear and dupatta. Based on the events of the past 24 hours, I fear that further attempts may be made to remove both me and the people assisting with Tara's care from the residence.
Throughout this process, my allegations of abuse have been repeatedly dismissed. Family members have insisted that everything that occurred within the marriage was consensual. I strongly dispute that. In my experience, the conduct I was subjected to was degrading, humiliating, coercive, and deeply harmful to my dignity. Instead of my concerns being taken seriously, I have faced disbelief, hostility, and attacks on my character while trying to seek protection for myself and my child.
I am speaking out because no woman or child should be left without protection when seeking safety, accountability, and justice.
I urge the relevant authorities to take these concerns seriously and ensure the safety, well-being, and dignity of my daughter and me.

Next up, we had an amazing fireside chat with the one and only @Gavin_Remedios from @IBM. The theme of the session was opportunities in design after graduating and was superbly curated by Gunjan Kaul.
Adam Silver can learn something from FIBA. Their games are way more entertaining than the NBA. More physical. More defence. Crisp offence and no free throw merchants. #NBA#fiba#Olympics2024#Basketball
🚨 EPIC RANT ALERT 🚨
Darko Rajakovic: "What happened tonight was completely bullsh*t. This is shame. Shame for the referees. Shame for the league to allow this. 23 free throws for them and we get two free throws in the fourth quarter... like how to play the game?"

@nikebasketball Are you guys tone deaf...90% of his fans are all over the world, not just in North America!... Sheesh! Instead of seeing those Lebrons everywhere (now heavily discounted) give the world what they want.. everything Kobe!!
@MarkJackson13 ESPN is about to be in shambles. Nobody knows less about what fans truly want than their decision makers.
I will say, hearing Mark Jackson say "Mama, there goes that man!" or "hand down, man down!" while your fav player is cooking is unlike any other catchphrase in sports
🐐
@StephenCurry30 @AppleFilms @A24@proximitymedia@unanimousmedia@petenicks Why not Netflix Steph? I wish you realised how many fans you have outside the States and 90% of them won't be able to see it on Apple TV/Films. So disappointing as a fan 😔
