Today, PS @NgogaAristarque attended the Country Level Global Refugee Forum (GRF) Progress Review Meeting, organised in partnership with @RefugeesRwanda, reaffirming Rwanda’s strong commitment to refugee protection, inclusion and durable solutions. Rwanda currently hosts nearly 140,000 refugees, mainly from the DRC and Burundi, and continues to uphold an open door policy while advancing self-reliance, dignity and access to national systems.

Since the 2019 and 2023 GRF pledges, Rwanda has recorded notable progress across education, livelihoods, protection and resilience: over 45,000 refugee students are enrolled in Rwanda’s education system, 1,000+ have accessed tertiary education, 490 refugee youth have received business grants, and 4,780 households are engaged in joint agriculture projects with host communities. In addition, 93% of eligible refugees have ID cards, 99% of refugees born in Rwanda have birth registration, and 647,846 trees have been planted in refugee camps. While challenges remain, Rwanda stays committed to stronger partnerships, shared responsibility and sustainable solutions.

Today, PS @NgogaAristarque chaired #JyaMbere Project Implementation Support Mission kick off meeting attended by the @WB_Rwanda,@RefugeesRwanda @BRDbank, @RTDARwanda among other implementing partners.

The meeting reviewed the overall progress across all project components, highlighting achievements, implementation challenges and the way forward to ensure implementation efforts are fully aligned with achieving the project targets as Phase I concludes this Year.

The Permanent Secretary commended the World Bank and all implementing partners for their strong collaboration and notable progress achieved under the Socio-Economic Inclusion of Refugees and Host Communities Project, and reaffirmed the Government of Rwanda’s commitment to achieving the Project Development Objective, including completing all remaining Phase I activities within the agreed timeline.

As Phase I of #JyaMbere Project approaches completion, Phase II has been extended through 2030 to scale up achievements, and ensure sustainable socio-economic inclusion for refugees and host communities.

Today Minister Maj. Gen. (Rtd) Albert MURASIRA together with the Minister of Justice and Attorney General Dr. @eugirashebuja1 and the DG @Rwandamigration, ACP Lynder NKURANGA held a meeting with a @UNHCR delegation led by @mamadou_dbalde, UNHCR’s Regional Director for East & Horn of Africa and Great Lakes.

Discussions focused on progress in implementing the 2024 Law Governing Refugees and Applicants for Refugee Status, including the establishment of the Appeal Tribunal and improved Refugee Status Determination processes.

The meeting also explored Rwanda’s commitment to explore the possibility to transition from refugee camps to integrated settlements. This aligns with the Global Compact on Refugees and Rwanda’s pledges to enhance inclusion, self-reliance, and sustainable solutions for both refugees & host communities. They agreed on the need for stronger coordination and a roadmap for next steps.

Yesterday, from 14:30 to 16:00, a fire drill and simulation exercise was conducted at the @RwandaFinance. The activity was led by teams from MINEMA in collaboration with the Fire and Rescue Brigade of the @Rwandapolice.

The drill aimed to strengthen institutional preparedness and emergency response capacity. As part of the exercise, the staff were also sensitized on essential fire safety practices, gaining practical knowledge on how to prevent and respond effectively to fire incidents.
