It's been so sad to see communities in Nigeria facing a double tragedy:

•The first being the tragedy of physical violence meted on them by militias, terrorists etc.
•The second being the tragedy of silence around their suffering.

In 2024, I ran an experiment in Apa-Agatu in Benue State.

I supported some village children there with Nelson Apochi to help them prepare for JAMB using Educare and teaching support. They all did well and are excelling today.

This boy, Oyishima Daniel Adewebo, was one of them. He scored 290 in JAMB and is currently studying Medicine and Surgery at the University of Abuja.

He just shared his first-year result, and he got all A’s.

It was my riskiest intervention because, at the time, over 500 people had been murdered in the community by herdsmen.

We have lots of hidden talents in villages that we need to discover and help shine.

Today, I visited Abor village in Enugu State to see the village children learning Maths. I turned into a teacher today as well.

Some of the children don’t have teachers in their schools. Some said their teachers are always in a hurry to cover their syllabuses, while others have very uninteresting teachers.

I personally experienced the joy and eagerness in the children. This gives me so much joy.

The lessons will now be held Monday to Saturday, and we will run 2 batches every day because of the crowd.

We will run an internal assessment every 2 weeks.

This now looks like a model that will eradicate illiteracy in villages and low-income areas.

Idris Abdulrasheed Adeiza just shared his 200-level, 1st-semester result with me.

I discovered this star boy in a remote village in Okene, Kogi State in 2024.

I saw his zeal and determination and decided to take a bet on him. It worked out.

He is currently studying Software Engineering at the Federal University of Technology, Akure.

We have lots of stars hidden in remote places like Idris that are yet to be discovered.

Yesterday morning, these children from Abor village in Enugu State gathered to learn “Place Value” in Mathematics. The turnout became so large that we now have to create a daily timetable for different groups.

These are the same children the community had been saying were not serious about their studies for years. Yet, we changed that narrative after just one encounter.

Before this holiday ends, every child in this village will have a strong foundation in Mathematics.

And here’s the most interesting part: no teacher is standing in front of the class. We only have a supervisor to maintain order while the children learn through world-class lessons delivered in the most engaging and exciting way.

Children are the same everywhere.

The difference is not intelligence.

The difference is access.
