The Fed is raising interest rates to combat the rise in oil prices.

The idea is that increased debt payments & cost of borrowing will decrease demand, thereby lowering prices & counteracting the inflated oil prices caused by the Strait of Hormuz/Red Sea blockade.

And leaving aside how politically disgusting this is, I don’t even think it’s gonna work.

Gas prices today are extremely inelastic, meaning they aren’t heavily affected by changes in demand. Everyone needs to buy gas regardless of how many interest payments they’re making.

If anything this will just impoverish the American populace further & force them to take out even more predatory loans.

We truly have the most predatory irrational economic system imaginable, which is why the “solutions” to economic crises are hardly solutions at all.
