A lion with a genetic abnormality, often caused by inbreeding in captivity. It leads to deformities and poor health, not conservation. He’s now rescued and living safely under proper care.
I am a senior vice president at Amazon.
I just laid off 14,000 people.
I blamed AI.
AI didn't make the decision.
I did.
In a conference room.
With a spreadsheet.
And a latte.
The latte was oat milk.
I'm trying to be more sustainable.
Let me walk you through the process.
First, you identify "efficiency opportunities."
Efficiency opportunities are people.
Then you "leverage AI-driven insights."
AI-driven insights are which people.
The AI recommends.
I decide.
But the press release says AI.
AI never talks back.
AI never leaks to reporters.
AI never asks for severance.
AI is the perfect scapegoat.
We announced a "reorganization."
Reorganization is when you fire people but use more syllables.
More syllables means less guilt.
That's linguistics.
The memo mentioned "reducing bureaucracy."
Bureaucracy means middle managers.
Middle managers are people with families who used to have jobs.
Used to.
Past tense is the efficiency.
We're "shifting resources to our biggest bets."
Our biggest bets are data centers.
And robots.
Robots don't need healthcare.
That's the ROI.
Return On Inhumanity.
I made that up.
It's not in the deck.
Our operating income was $18 billion last quarter.
Record profits.
We still did layoffs.
Profits don't prevent layoffs.
Profits cause layoffs.
Wall Street loves layoffs.
Stock goes up.
Headcount goes down.
That's the seesaw.
A consulting firm did a study.
95% of companies have seen no measurable return from AI.
Despite $40 billion in investment.
We're in the 95%.
But we're optimistic.
Optimistic means we'll keep firing people until the AI works.
Or until there's no one left.
Whichever comes first.
Free cash flow dropped from $53 billion to $18 billion.
Where did it go?
AI infrastructure.
We're cutting people today to build the systems that replace people tomorrow.
That's called "investing in the future."
The future has fewer humans in it.
But more servers.
Servers don't unionize.
A reporter asked if AI really caused the layoffs.
I said AI is "transforming how we work."
Transform means replace.
How we work means you.
Transforming you.
Out of here.
I have a prepared statement.
"We're excited about the opportunities ahead."
Opportunities means your job.
Ahead means soon.
I'm doing a keynote next quarter.
"Leading Through AI Transformation."
Transformation means I fired 14,000 people and kept my bonus.
But that's too long for a conference title.
The market understands.
The market always understands.
The market is also AI.
Probably.
I didn't lay off 14,000 people.
AI did.
That's my story.
The shareholders love it.
The algorithm approves.
Leadership.
Look how scared the camel who falls looks.
Animals in circuses are pushed to perform under the constant threat of punishment 😢
NEVER participate in this cruelty.
My tribute to my dad, who passed away last month in the UK.
He was a proud Indian immigrant *and* a proud British citizen.
His life story is one long rebuttal to the nativists, bigots and xenophobes.
Me (Jew) and my boy Ameer (Palestinian) have been friends since high school and work together on EpicMealTime. The situation in the Middle East never changed our friendship. All humans have potential to be good or evil. We’ve always had each other’s backs, and we always will.
In the last 24 Hours, the Zionists and their paid shills have been maliciously attacking me in an obviously organized smear campaign for my past so I want to use this opportunity to share my testimony:
I struggled with addiction all through my twenties with pills and eventually heroin and methamphetamine. I was in and out of detox and short term rehab facilities, and I just could not get clean. I ran away from my family, stopped answering my phone, and bounced around from trap house to trap house in TN and I was truly one of the most hopeless of cases.
I will never forget the day that God met me. I was sleeping on dirty mattress on the floor strung out in a house infested with roaches and had just gotten my phone back from the pawn store. I was sitting and listening to music, and I don’t know how to explain it, but God just met me there, He reminded me of the verse from Jeremiah 29:11 that reads:
“For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
I knew that I was called to politics in some capacity and that His plans for me were far greater than the life I was CHOOSING to live. But I remember looking down at my current state and telling God “yeah right, that’s impossible”.
I’d like to say it was an immediate deliverance from drugs, but it was not, I had to pursue and submit to the process of recovery. I walked through the doors of Teen Challenge, a faith-based 12 month program, and I pursued Christ and my healing with all my heart and never looked back. It was the hardest year of my life.
As I continued to pursue Christ in those 12 months, He restored me from the inside out and broke off the chains of addiction and bondage that I had tried to break off on my own unsuccessfully for years. I graduated from Teen Challenge and stayed to give back as their program director.. until one day, I got a call from a Trump Campaign, asking me to come work for them as a field director out in Iowa, and later, I went on to run for U.S. Senate in Delaware.
Jesus is so real, and my life is a testament to everything He is capable of.
By the grace of God, I will be celebrating 7 years clean this February.
All those trying to shame me for my past are incapable of understanding the grace, mercy, and forgiveness of our God. It’s not just my story, it’s His story too.
When the devil tries to remind you of your past, remind him of HIS future.
@levelsio This question has one intention only. How many of your companies have reached a billion dollar valuation? Does it mean that you’re a shlepp indie dev? Everything in life is not a dick measuring contest.
