In this account I talk about movies, books and TV shows. I don't censor myself for anybody's sake. If I write what I want to write, including spoilers, then that's that. Consider this your warning. ✌️
Ah, well, I guess it's time for me to check out Ginn Hale's other book (The Counterfeit Viscount) to round up my reading rally.
After this, I think I'm going to re-read C.S. Pacat and the Captive Prince series. Then, I'm trying out her Dark Rise and Dark Heir novels. 🙂
—and the third one is kinda religious fantasy, the second one is just pure fantasy. Plus, Skellan irreverence and Elezar's repression (read: SUPER closeted denial) make for an exhilarating romance. Also, Skellan shifts into a dog, Elezar shifts into a bear. I mean... WTF SO COOL!
But despite Ariz being my favorite, my favorite duology is the second one: Champion of the Scarlet Wolf. Those two books are full-on unapologetic fantasy, with mordwolves, trolls, lightning horses, frogwives, and other creatures. Whereas the first duology is kind of steampunk—
Or maybe I'm just salty bcos Fedeles is the only character who gets to be married, has a son (biologically not his, tho?) and gets to ascend as king, meanwhile everyone else is either on the run, lives under discrimination, and/or mired in poverty. *sigh*
After reading all of Ginn Hale's Cadeleonian series, I found the most epic character of the whole series is the anti-hero of the third duology: Ariz Plunado—assassin, dancer, uncle, "potato" (he's so stoic & unremarkable that co-protagonist Atreau described his charm as a potato)
Don't get me wrong; Fedeles' journey is also an epic tale but compared to Javier, Kiram, Elezar, and Atreau? Fedeles' life is smooth sailing. He practically gets no hardship (kind of). Only when he comes in contact with Ariz does his role get magnified and elevated.
But after I re-read the whole thing from the very beginning, the continuity threaded itself and formed one hell of a saga. I fell in love all over again with the worldbuilding, the magic, the fantasy, the fallible heroes, and even the wicked villains. 💕
I've been revisiting a series of books by one of my absolute favorite authors, Ginn Hale. Her first book I read was Wicked Gentleman, back when the book was "trending" among my Livejournal friends list.
I made the mistake of trying to read MOTRS without re-reading LOTWH and COTSW... and I was lost. It's been so long since I read these books, I literally forget the story. I only remembered the protagonists' names: Kiram & Javier (first duology), Skellan & Elezar (second duology).
I didn't realize Euro Cup was ongoing right now. I used to care about this tournament. Now I don't anymore. 😅 I'm more interested in the Paris Olympics.
But this movie, I have to review. https://t.co/6XCyVppaxz Lee Je-hoon x Koo Kyo-hwan — two of my favorites in the same movie, I definitely have to see in the cinema (if it plays here). Absolutely can't miss it.
This summer movie season doesn't inspire me to go to the cinema... I look at the movies and all I can think of is "Ah, I'll just catch 'em later when it streams somewhere." ... I don't know what that says about me. But that's how it is right now. 🙃
