Somalia's Minister of Defense, Ahmed Moallim Fiqi, strongly defended international referee Omar Abdulkadir Artan, saying:

"Omar has never had any connection to terrorism. Even the community he comes from rejected and drove out Al-Shabaab. Anyone attempting to associate Omar with the group has only embarrassed themselves and undermined the credibility of the U.S. Embassy that previously granted him a visa. We stand firmly with Omar."

Fiqi emphasized that Somalia fully supports Omar and rejected any allegations linking the respected referee to extremist groups.

Somali politician Libaan Shuluq has given $50,000 to referee Omar Artan after he was refused entry into the United States ahead of the 2026 World Cup.

Shuluq, who is running for the Galmudug regional presidency, made the move in support of the FIFA/CAF official.
