Leaders, empathy is the ability to put yourself in another person’s shoes. But make sure you are assessing how they would feel in their shoes, not how you would feel in their shoes.

A child who feels free to experience the full range of emotions without fear of punishment, or the need for self-censorship, learns key lessons:
1. Emotions pass
2. They are transient
3. There is nothing in mental experience that demands an action
