@gamer_lafan 1st masterpiece from the french legends: Paul Cuisset ( Flashback ) & Eric Chahi ( Another World ), with the soundtrack of Jean Baudlot (1st composer from the golden age of Delphine Software ).
Fun fact: Future Wars was the 1st french best seller in video games ^^
I first played this futuristic war game on a monochrome 8088 XT computer, not even in color.
That code sheet felt like a symbolic image of the game itself.
It came out in 1990, and to me as a kid, it felt just like a movie.
The opening scene, where you start by cleaning the windows of a skyscraper, was especially unforgettable.
But without hints, it was incredibly hard to progress—I don’t think I even made it past 5%.
Someday, when I have time, I’d like to properly play through it.
Anyone else remember this game?
If you enjoy games with compelling stories, Delphine Software Collection 1 brings together four 16-bit classics that each have a thrilling tale to tell. Enjoy the sci-fi action of Another World, Flashback and Future Wars, and play superspy in Operation Stealth!
@sreekotay@TrevesStudios@16bitnostalgia You are right. Another World is the creation of Eric Chahi, while Flashback is the creation of Paul Cuisset. These two video game designers began their careers together at Delphine Software.
Flashback (1992) by French studio Delphine Software and directed by Paul Cuisset was seen by many as the spiritual successor to Another World from 1991, though Eric Chahi was not involved at all.
In 2142, amnesiac agent Conrad B. Hart crashes in Titan's jungles, uncovering a Morph alien infiltration plot threatening Earth. It features rotoscoped animations for fluid Prince of Persia-style movement, hand-drawn backdrops, vector cutscenes, shooting, and puzzles. It blends action-adventure seamlessly and similar to Another World it tells the story through visuals, not text.
Acclaimed for atmosphere and innovation, it sold over 1.5 million copies, making it a Guinness book of records best-selling French game. It didn't quite have the same "wow" effect to me as Another World did, but it was still an excellent game.
