@FreightAlley Capacity searches in @GenLogs nearly doubled last week compared to the next highest week over the last 180 days. Searches were already up in late April to mid May as capacity continued to exit the market.
Load boards aren't cutting it. Expect $5+ rates soon.
A freight broker booked a load with 'Scottway Logistics.' Refrigerated load from Idaho, going to Florida. Carrier passed vetting platform. MacroPoint tracking was used.
The truck 'shows up' at the shipper, asks for a $2,000 fuel advance. The broker sends the money upon confirmation that the truck has been loaded.
Shipper calls, "When will the truck be here?!"
Broker: Confused. Angry.
The broker asks the driver for an image of the bill of lading. The driver sends a generic picture of a BOL.
The driver and dispatch go ghost mode.
But hey, they made $2,000.

With a few more minutes of vetting and a bit of human discernment, this did NOT have to happen.
Using @SearchCarriers & @GenLogs, I can tell you this trucking company was not suitable for a load from Idaho to Florida.
1. SearchCarriers: Contact changes recently. No inspections. Virtually no activity for this carrier.
2. GenLogs: No carrier sightings in Idaho or Florida, ever. Looking at the images, this carrier only runs box trucks...

Debating putting out a few indices based on observed activity across the USA. Here are a few examples (WoW % changes).
It's cool to see how Labor Day caused a dip across all three indices. Also interesting that SAIA is lagging recently in LTL.
