This thread is an outline of my Harry Potter (Malfoid Edition: The Boy Who Lived and the Girl Who Loved Him) pastiche. It will grow as I re-read the books and figure out how to modify them.
A 🧵on Ginny Weasley.
She is still necessary as Ron’s younger sister, thereby making him not the baby of the family and maximizing his “forgotten middle child” complex, which is a key part of her character.
With the #malfoid saga, I've been thinking about Ginny's place in it. Yeah, she'd make a fun love rival, but really, I think she'd be best left written out. With Malfoid existing, it'd be entirely safe to do so.
Malfoid already *has* the diary, and it'd make sense for her to write in it, such as with her Potter frustrations. The only other thing Ginny does (that I remember) is cause some vague "Oh I can't date my mate's sister" drama, which is nonsense anyway and redundant now.
Malfoid falling prey to the book also gives Malfoid a natural means of building up more good relations with Harry since he saves her, and would make Lucius begin to think twice about his allegiance if it hurts his family.
@Axxikon Yeah, the Malfoid phenomenon is not likely to motivate her to do anything to help. She’s hated by the letter people because she won’t follow the trans agenda to the letter, but she’s still pretty liberal.
I don’t want Rowling to publicly acknowledge Malfoid, bc it creates more problems than it solves. I would love for her to release parts of the IP into the public domain/under Creative Commons license bc it would give Malfoid writers more room to maneuver than they have in fanfic.
@sideless13 The most important thing about her is that her mere existence keeps Ron from having any distinction at all in his own family. He doesn’t even get to be the baby of the family and he ends up with pure “forgotten middle child” energy. She doesn’t need to say even one line
@andrewtaal@TheWorldJar I don’t hate her, it’s just she’s a minor character who ends up with Harry for no good reason, and there are good reasons she shouldn’t be Harry’s romantic interest.
I don’t get totally erasing Ginny, especially when certain moments only work with her even if they aren’t romantic. Harry brooding at Grimmauld Place over Christmas break and having someone bring him back to his senses doesn’t work if that someone isn’t Ginny. Even if Dracaena gets the diary and ends up possessed, she wouldn’t be able be there for him in that moment, anyway.
It is entirely plausible that Dracaena doesn’t see this facet of Harry and Ginny’s relationship, and so comes to think of Ginny as a rival for Harry’s attention.
This is a perfectly fine way to do it, 10/10 but the direction I am going to take it is rescuing Ginny is Malfoid's come to Jesus moment that the prince is not just going to fall into *her* lap like her birthright and set the stage for proactive character development in year 3,
@boop_crypto@SCHIZO_FREQ Make slut-shaming great again!
Also, slut-shaming is far more often employed by women against other women than by men. Both now, and in the past.
@noyeahobviously I remember most of the girls on my high school track team around 1990 being actively uncomfortable at the idea of wearing spandex without regular shorts over it. Now it’s very tight yoga pants everywhere. High school girls dressed far more modestly then than they do now.
@FaithKn45@kenzietuff@revenant_MMXX “Growing up with boys and my outlier mom” - literally my excuse for why I was so clueless about girls and women well into adulthood!
@Koookiiing I’m wishing I had the time to write a full interpretation of my own, but I will likely have to content myself with curating the myriad of cool ideas I run across!
