Countries like Mexico and India have very mixed results and are points of controversy, but if I asked you to label immigrants from Norway, Somalia, Japan, and Guatemala as either net contributor or net detractor immigration populations, you'd know instantly

Of course I see the difference, what you don't see is that both are serious problems worth addressing. Put the murderers and rapists in the ground, and deport the others. You picked a net tax paying family as an example of course, but we both know even peaceful 3rd world immigrants are not that on average. If you're going to retort with why not punish non-immigrants who are a tax burden, I would say in some instances we should. But there's a clear line between who should get deported and who shouldn't - those who shouldn't be here in the first place.
