As South Africans, we do not fully understand these kinds of storms & impact of extreme weather. And now these storms, typhoons, tsunamis & more are fuelled by warmer ocean temperatures & climate change, making their impacts even more devastating.

The Philippines has experienced two typhoons in 1 wk, leaving behind a catastrophic humanitarian crisis as the loss of life increases & impact on infrastructure & one million people displaced here alone.

Warmer oceans power stronger & more powerful storms . There is an increase in rapid intensification, which makes these typhoons and storms more difficult to predict with current systems.

Climate resilience is paramount as is the adequate allocation of resources by municipalities so that early warning systems can ensure that lives are saved. The power and importance of traditional knowledge can and must play a roll alongside stronger infrastructure planning and transparent risk governance.

These clips were taken by myself in Aklan yesterday as the Typhoon was making its way towards the Philippines, this island wasn't even hit by the Typhoon itself, however the impacts are felt far & wide as was seen.
