@findmypast I knew it was in a gas attack, but the article said he as CSM had encouraged his men to withstand the attack. He then went into no mans land to take an injuried German prisoner gaining vital intel. Then, with an officer, went over again to rescue a wounded Brit saving his life.

@ShamrockGen Yes I think you may be right. Having worked out the paternal/maternal sides it seems the Icelandic & most of the Welsh is maternal not paternal.

Got my @Ancestry #DNA result. My mum was adopted so did not know what to expect. Paternal family is from Scotland so surprised that isn't shown, but could be the Welsh/Icelandic maybe? Very interesting to see. #FamilyHistory #Genealogy

101 years since my grandad was born. Every 9th December I remember he used to tell us grandkids his birthday meant it was 2 weeks & 2 days untill Christmas. I still miss him so much even after nearly 19 years.

These #SWW British medal cards are brilliant. I have proved that my grandad did get his medals. What happened to them after is a mystery. Probably either taken from his mother's house by a sibling, or sold in a garage of junk after his death. #genealogy

First trip to Pevensey Castle yesterday. Despite living so close I never knew it had so much history. Ollie loved the cannon. I loved the Second World War connection. @EnglishHeritage

Going through a file of my grandfather's papers today. I found the original designs and planning documents for the house that he built (except the electrics) in the 1950s. Here with modern extensions. #FamilyHistory #Genealogy
