Mr P dropped Part 1 to 8b of an episode like a man emptying his chest and by Part 6, Nigeria wasn’t watching a music group anymore. We were watching a mirror, a mirror of ourselves.

Everybody dey clap for the Psquare 2021 reunion, twin brothers hugging, Instagram and Facebook captions full of love, “Brothers Forever” this and that.

Nobody asked who wrote the script and that’s the thing about reconciliation for camera; the hug is real, but the meeting after the hug is where the truth lives.

Mr P don show us how the very next morning after burying the hatchet with his brother, he met documents already prepared, pen already uncapped, “sign here” already written in their elder brother’s handwriting. Forgiveness na different room from access like Peter said. You fit love person well well and still refuse to append your signature to whatever dem dey push for your face.

That’s family for you. Blood makes you related, it does not make you safe.

The people who know your childhood, your weakness, your soft spot, those same people know exactly where to press when money enters the matter. Betrayal doesn’t kick down doors. It knocks politely, calls you “bro,” and yet deals with you ruthlessly.

But the part that will really enter your chest is Lola.

For years, Lola Omotayo carried a silence that Nigerians mocked her for.

A birthday post without the word “husband” and the whole internet turned detective with everyone saying “something is not right,” they said, “she never even called him her man.”

People built whole narratives off one caption while she said nothing, defended nothing, explained nothing. That kind of silence gets read as coldness, as trouble, as a marriage running on fumes especially as someone way older than her superstar husband. Everybody has an opinion about a woman who doesn’t perform her love loudly.

Peter dropped Part 5 and we found out that in the middle of all this, while Peter needed 30 million naira urgently, at the very peak of the family war to pay off Paul for the house signed away, with nowhere else to turn, it was Lola who went to her own father, without her husband explaining a single detail of why, and came back with the money.

We never saw what she did on Facebook, IG or Twitter. No caption to say “swipe to see how I held my man down.”

The same silence people mocked her for was the same silence that was protecting her family while the men were busy performing brotherhood for the gram and stabbing each other in private.

That’s a lesson that will outlive Psquare: the loudest love is not always the realest love, and the quietest person in the room is sometimes the only one actually holding things together. Some people announce loyalty. Other people fund it.

Lola never needed the caption because she wasn’t building an image… she was building a life. Years of side-eye, years of “why she never dey talk,” and in the end, she’s the only character in this whole saga nobody can point a finger at.

And as the episode of keeping up with the Okoye draws the curtain, this is my take.

Blood will show you who’s related. Only time will show you who’s safe.

A reunion built to fix the picture will crack exactly where the picture was fake.

The first paper they put in front of you is a test. Read before you sign, love before you agree.

Betrayal doesn’t announce itself but says “let’s keep it in the family” right before it takes something from the family.

Loud love needs an audience, real love needs nothing but a reason.

Some of the strongest people you know are the ones everybody misjudged for being quiet.

Somewhere in his story, you’ve been Peter, questioning why the person closest to you wants your signature more than your presence. And somewhere else, if you check well, you’ve probably underestimated somebody’s silence too, the same way Nigeria underestimated Lola’s.

In all of this story, one person won and that is Lola. Eight episodes and she earned the continent’s love

Today I join others from across our game and call for Gianni Infantino to resign as FIFA President.

Infantino has debased the office that he promised to elevate. He has lied, deceived and tried to feather his own nest at the expense of the game he is supposed to serve. 

He has lost the support of his senior staff, his closest advisers, the vast majority of people who devote their lives to this sport and even, it would seem, the FIFA Peace Prize winner. 

It is too late to save his dignity but it is not too late to save football. He should go. Now.
