The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone. For decades, remote corners of Matebeleland were overlooked, with critics often claiming these communities had been abandoned. Today, that narrative is changing as Lubimbi in Binga becomes the focal point of one of Zimbabwe’s largest infrastructure developments under the Second Republic.

While much of the public discussion has focused on the disruption, the progress on the Gwayi-Shangani Dam represents a life-changing milestone for local residents. The US$28 million relocation initiative, confirmed by Provincial Minister Richard Moyo, will ensure that 806 families move out of traditional pole, thatch, and mud structures into modern, cement-built homes before the dam gates close.

This transformation extends far beyond improved housing. The Gwayi-Shangani Dam is set to secure a permanent, reliable water supply for Bulawayo and the surrounding region, unlocking long-term economic growth, agricultural opportunities, and industrial development across Matebeleland. Far from being forgotten, these communities are now driving a vital solution to the nation's water security.

Kune COMESA in coming weeks and we need to clean the city including removing illegal vendors who in business may discourage investor confidence in the country.

Yes, it is painful for our citizens to be removed from the streets but are they really supposed to be there? NO!

Isn't there another place set up for them to freely sell their stuff? YES there is!

Order matters because it shapes how visitors, investors and international delegates perceive us. We cannot afford a situation where vendors are selling their wares haphazardly outside major hotels such as Meikles. A clean, orderly and well-managed city builds confidence, strengthens our international image and signals that Zimbabwe is ready to do business.

We can protect livelihoods while maintaining order by providing properly designated and well-managed vending spaces. How we manage our cities is part of how we build visitor confidence.

CA3 was not smuggled into law in the dark of night. It followed a public constitutional process, parliamentary debate, supermajorities, and formal Presidential assent. Opposing an amendment is fine, but believing you have a veto simply because you lost the debate is pure delusion

Mwonzora is, of course, entirely free to approach the Constitutional Court. That is the beauty of our constitutional democracy. But courts should not be romanticised as a substitute political battlefield for arguments already decisively lost among citizens and in Parliament.

CA3 is the law of the land.

It is a done deal time to move on.

Good EU-Zim relations

In demonstration of the thawing of relations the European Union has given the Zimbabwean coffee sector a clean bill of health, with more than 99 percent of mapped farms showing zero deforestation, according to an extensive due diligence assessment carried out across coffee farms.

The Herald reported that the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR), adopted in June 2023 as Regulation EU 2023/1115, represents one of the most significant legislative developments in international trade and forest conservation in recent years.
The regulation prohibits the placing or making available on the EU market of certain commodities and products, including coffee, unless they have been produced on land that has not been subjected to deforestation or forest degradation since December 31, 2020.Any operator or trader seeking to export coffee to the EU market must demonstrate due diligence by providing geolocation data for all plots of land where the coffee was produced, a country-of-origin risk assessment, and a declaration confirming that the product is free from deforestation and has been produced in compliance with the relevant laws of the country of production.The EUDR creates a benchmarking system in which countries are classified as low, standard or high risk based on their deforestation profile and the robustness of their governance frameworks.

As Zimbabwe aims to expand its coffee production and exports to the EU, compliance with the EUDR is crucial.The assessment will focus on mapping coffee farms, evaluating environmental sustainability practices, and ensuring that Zimbabwean coffee is free from deforestation-linked activities. The EU Delegation to Zimbabwe (@euinzim) official X handle disclosed that Zimbabwean coffee was brewing a strong comeback and had earned a sustainability boost.

The EU said “This strong compliance with EUDR standards directly strengthens the industry’s reputation in key export markets. For Zimbabwe’s coffee sector, this is another positive sign that the industry’s comeback is gathering momentum. As the industry continues to grow, strong sustainability performance will help keep Zimbabwean coffee flowing into high-value markets around the world”.

Renting out your house is a business, and all businesses in Zimbabwe need to be taxed!!!

For years, landlords have been making so much money from rent vasiri kubhadhara tax. Some charging as high as $5, 000 for dilapidated houses. Vamwe they even use their houses to conduct business vachitiza town where they are forced to pay tax.

This initiative by ZIMRA to conduct house-by-house investigations is the best solution to get people to pay tax.

It is only unfortunate kuti ma landlords acho achakwidza rent after hearing kuti ZIMRA is coming after them for tax but pa fair this is a good thing for all of us as a country.

This is how the country makes money for roads and healthcare yedu tese!

And just because vaisatora tax all along doesn’t mean the law has not been there kubva kare.

As a property owner;

1. Register your property with ZIMRA kana unema tenants (renting out property is business, and all businesses in Zimbabwe need to be taxed).
2. ⁠Submit quarterly tenant registers
3. ⁠Submit occupancy lists
4. ⁠Submit rental schedules to Zimra
