Session Five of #ZEDCON2026 is underway, focusing on Sustainable Energy and Power Generation and the role of a diversified, resilient energy system in Zimbabwe’s transition towards an Upper Middle-Income Economy. The session builds on the progress made in securing universal access to affordable energy as highlighted by His Excellency President Dr E.D. Mnangagwa in his State of the Nation Address: “Remarkable improvements are evident in the Energy sector. Frequent load shedding is now a thing of the past.” Kariba and thermal power generation are being augmented through Independent Power Producers (IPPs), captive power plants, net metering and rooftop solar, demonstrating the diversification of Zimbabwe’s electricity mix and the growing contribution of distributed and private-sector energy generation.
This morning’s presentations are exploring Zimbabwe’s renewable energy transition through policy implementation, Public-Private Partnerships and innovative financing, green finance through smart cities, smart microgrids and resource-efficient green buildings, distributed Solar PV adoption, energy efficiency and regional energy trade,as well as Centragrid’s recommendations for improving the enabling environment for investment in the energy sector. The discussions are taking place within the broader framework of the 2026 National Energy Compact, which sets explicit renewable energy targets and outlines measures to expand generation and transmission capacity, strengthen private-sector participation, increase renewable energy deployment and improve access to reliable and sustainable electricity. The session is therefore examining not only how Zimbabwe can close its energy deficit, but how a diversified energy mix, innovative financing and an enabling investment environment can support industrialisation, economic growth and the attainment of Vision 2030.

🇿🇼 Zimbabwe’s participation at Expo 2027 Belgrade gives the country a major platform to advance the economic diplomacy and image-building objectives of NDS2.
From tourism and culture to mineral beneficiation, agriculture and the creative economy, Zimbabwe will be presenting real opportunities for trade, investment and international partnerships.
The objective must be clear: turn global visibility into tourists, markets, investment and jobs at home. Brand Zimbabwe must carry an economic dividend.

The sudden and unexpected tragic passing on of Mr and Mrs Chivayo, two crew members and a security aide in a helicopter crash yesterday afternoon left our Nation, my family, and me personally numbed and in deep shock and grief. We are all shattered by this unexpected, sudden demise of so young a family and officers for whom so much promise held.
Consummately philanthropic, the Chivayo Family touched so many lives in our Nation through its countless acts of charity and generosity which ran into millions of dollars, and which motivated and transformed countless lives . His generous hand cut across sectors and reached many individuals: in politics, religion, public service, culture, sport and many different professions.
The late Wicknell Chivayo had a grand vision for his family, for our country, for the Southern African subregion and for our African continent, in pursuit of which he, in his own way, deepened our programme of engagement and re-engagement, thus raising the Zimbabwean flag high. Indeed, he embodied the Second Republic’s ethos of indigenous enterprise tempered with a human face, an admirable legacy which is sure to inspire a generation.
I am personally aware of numerous plans he had for our Nation and our people, principally the less privileged ones and our war veterans, whose social condition he diligently worked to ameliorate. He shared with me some of these grand plans only this last Tuesday after our Cabinet meeting, just a day before his tragic end.
Tellingly, the Chivayos lost their lives on their way back from Gandami in rural Chikomba where they were putting up modern family and community structures, all in line with our policy on rural development through investments, industrialization, development and transformation. His vision thus dovetailed with, and located itself within our broad national goals.
On behalf of our Nation, my Family and on my behalf, I wish to express my deepest, heartfelt condolences to the Chivayo Family, and to the families of all those lost in yesterday's tragic crash . We mourn with and stand by them in this hour of deep, inconsolable grief and pain.
As they go through the motions of this consuming tragedy, may the bereaved families find solace and comfort in the great and distinguished work and service which the dear departed rendered to our Nation, and for which they will continue to be remembered and emulated.
May their dear souls be rested eternally.

Today, I had the privilege of chairing the 397th Ordinary Session of the ZANU PF Politburo at our party headquarters in Harare.
As we met, we paid a special tribute to our founding fathers, the late former President Robert Mugabe and former Vice President Simon Muzenda. Their enduring legacy continues to inspire deep unity, patriotism, and love for our great country.
Looking ahead, preparations for the upcoming 23rd National People's Conference in Chinhoyi are progressing exceptionally well. Operating under the theme "From Resolutions to Results," I have firmly charged the Party leadership to ensure our resolutions translate directly into tangible, life-changing results for our people.
On the economic front, our nation continues to witness a steady rise in investor confidence. This is clearly evidenced by the recent opening of the new $24 million USD Ecobank Head Office in Harare, alongside the highly positive engagements we secured with American business leaders at the UN General Assembly. Furthermore, the successful hosting of the Sanganai Tourism Expo in Masvingo showcases the immense resilience and potential of our tourism sector.
While we celebrate these successes, we remain proactive in safeguarding our communities against climate risks. Ahead of the predicted below-normal rainfall, the Government has formally approved a comprehensive Six-Pillar Drought Mitigation Plan to ensure food security and community support nationwide.
On the global stage, Zimbabwe’s diplomatic footprint continues to grow. We remain fully committed to multilateralism and diplomacy as we prepare to assume our seat on the UN Security Council in January 2027.
Additionally, we look forward to hosting the 25th COMESA Summit, where Zimbabwe will proudly assume the Chairmanship.
I call upon all party members and citizens to remain focused, united, and disciplined. Together, we are building a prosperous Zimbabwe, leaving no one and no place behind.
