Housing, urbanization & future of Agricultural Production:

Call for action!

Friends, Planned Housing and regulated urbanization are key enablers of agricultural productivity & food security!

Our President has correctly raised an alarm about mushrooming trading centres, town councils, municipalities & cities all with unplanned Housing developments aggressively encroaching on rural land traditionally used for cultivation. Horizontal developments for Housing/ real estate seriously compromise land use and thus play counter to large scale agricultural production. We must plan very well for urbanization to grow vertically and thus free more land for farming.

When I see real estate agencies penetrating rural luwero right from Gayaza, kiwenda , busika, janda, zirobwe, kikyusa, Kamira all through to Nakasongola, buying and parceling land for real estate development; not to mention other districts, I really get worried. What land will be left for Agricultural production in just a few years a head ? What is Housing without food security?

Fellow leaders and our Techenical planners/advisors ( Housing, economics, physical planning etc) we need to discuss this and come up with plausible policy options . A balance between these inter-related sectors of our economy must be created through correct planning and regulation.

This message is for @MoWT_Uganda regarding the causes of bus accidents. Speedgovernors arent a sol 4 they're usually removed. The sol is to regulate the engine capacity e.g buses that carry 70 passengers should operate on the engine capacity of over 13k cc.
