@Scott_Wiener @SFBART Added benefit: Vehicle emissions (here+elsewhere) are bad largely because the transit systems don't offer a commute time advantage for most area residents. Time=$$. Most people don't like wasting either. That formula sadly applies to people in many areas of our cities, too.

@Scott_Wiener @SFBART Exactly. Transit & Housing planning must be intertwined. All seriousness aside, though probably(and actually) serious: After nearly 50 years, BART needs to live up to the BA and R by covering the *whole* Bay Area and be Rapid.

@Scott_Wiener @SFBART If freeways can have extra lanes, why shouldn't trains? Now that the bullet train is (sadly) dead, how about allocating those funds to SF, LA and other systems for actual *rapid* transit that people will chose over driving because it will save them real time?

@Scott_Wiener @SFBART Not just a 2nd tube. Like other metros: a 2nd system-wide track. Then if one track goes down (like what literally happened in the Muni power loss a few months ago), people can still get to work. On other days, riders still get an express line: increasing avg daily ridership.
