Deeply honoured to be appointed by the Prime Minister as Health & Social Care Secretary.
Huge thanks to @RachelReevesMP for my time as part of her fantastic team.
Can't wait to get started and continue @wesstreeting's brilliant work on such a critical mission for our country.
Fixing CHC is urgent — but the bigger challenge is reforming social care so no one faces catastrophic costs. The Casey Commission is a vital chance to put people’s experiences at the centre. Give Nuffield's report a read 👇

At Healthwatch we often hear from families struggling with Continuing Healthcare. The new @NuffieldTrust report shows just how unfair the postcode lottery is when people need support most.
@meadwaj I agree, but I feel like they partly avoided deeper scrutiny by signing up to so many self limiting promises on not raising taxes and following fiscal rules which gave them an aura of fiscal sensibility.
It’s now clear from the attacks on the police, the nature of the speeches from the main stage, and the comments and conduct of a significant proportion of the marchers yesterday’s rally was an extremist, Far-Right rally. There is no longer any ambiguity about that.
Piers Morgan: "Do you think the [GHF] is a force for good in Gaza?"
Me: "No, it is a force for evil. That is not a word I use lightly. But what we have seen is evil...people coming for food, starved by Israel & they are then shot at, killed. 100s of them. It is the most evil thing I have seen in recent years."
Me on @PiersUncensored.

@GazRobinson1 On the second bit, it strikes me that as much as we have the big fanbase and history, there's a lot of clubs with good business models already who will just be so much easier for investors to buy/buy into. Whoever buys us is going to have a big big job.
We've published new research showing that there are significant gaps between the choices patients want when booking a #GPappointment and what they're offered.
Read our article to find out what patients are entitled to ask for at their GP practice.

Very interesting to see NHS England start to take action to move ophthalmology focus and spend towards non-cataract conditions. Definitely a waiting list risk but hopefully a real positive for those waiting for treatment for the most serious eye conditions https://t.co/VFpRn1cuh3
@YesWeCrann Thanks for your work chasing all this but what horrid news. The best raw talent we've had in a very long time, gone for I imagine far less than this true value.
@blimeysimon I agree but it'll be hard to join up services at neighbourhood level and avoid eligibility. Joined up care without social care eligibility changes could just be better healthcare for social care recipients, a small segment of those who are supposed to benefit from the ambition.
@Davewwest I rather suspect many see quangos as anything which isn't directly frontline service functions but agree it's a very diverse group being slashed in both form and function.
@NigelJohns60209 I think most people would see these two civic responsibilities as quite different in terms of experience needed don't you think Nigel?
As someone who was once a twenty year old councillor, I can't over emphasise how ill equipped an 18 year old for even an interim role like this. Young people deserve to be councillors but need time to develop. https://t.co/3a9AEqRBX7
