'The Lord exists forever; your word is firmly fixed in heaven. Your faithfulness endures to all generations; you have established the earth, and it stands fast'
Psalm 119: 89-91
I've visited St Hubert's Church more than once, but seeing this tiny medieval church surrounded by summer colour never gets old.
Would you make the trip for a view like this?
McFAUL: When Putin is losing on the battlefield, he has to turn to terrorism against civilians, like this horrific terrorist attack on Ukraine's cathedral.
Where are all those folks who say Putin is a good Christian, that he is a fighter for Christian world?
Putin is desperate. He is losing on the battlefield. Both sides are losing soldiers, but Russians are losing more.
Second, Ukrainians are now striking deep into Russian supply lines. That's something new.
Third, we're seeing more and more deep strikes into Russia that I predict are going to increase in the fall because of the new ballistic missiles that Ukrainians are developing.
Today is a dark day in Canadian history.
The House has passed Bill C-9—an assault on religious freedom that removes longstanding protections for Canadians expressing sincerely held beliefs.
Conservatives fought this bill every step of the way—and we will keep fighting until religious freedom is restored.

Codex Sinaiticus at the @britishlibrary. Currently it’s displayed open to the end of John’s Gospel.
The Treasures Gallery at the British Library is one of the most underrated exhibits there is. Along with Sinaiticus they also have out a 1526 Tyndale New Testament, Anne Boleyn’s copy of the 1534 Tyndale New Testament, Henry VIII’s copy of the Great Bible, the Lindisfarne Gospels, a first edition of Luther’s complete Bible from 1534 and one of the 21 still surviving Gutenberg Bibles.

Last night, Putin’s missiles brutally attacked Kyiv. Russian drones tore through the roof at one of the holiest sites in Orthodox Christianity: the Cathedral of the Dormition.
For nearly 1,000 years, this Pechersk Lavra monastery has stood through wars, invasions, and empires. Last night, its roof burned as flames lit the night sky.
Then something remarkable happened.
The heavens opened. Rain poured down, helping firefighters battle the blaze and protect this sacred place.
Today, the work continues to save a monastery that has endured for almost a millennium.
Kyiv stands.
Ukraine stands.
And the Cathedral of the Dormition of the Mother of God stands today.
KALLAS: Moscow has no intention to end the war. Overnight Russian attacks killed civilians in Ukraine and damaged Kyiv's historical cathedral.
This direct assault on Ukraine’s 1,000-year-old heritage also exposed absurdity of Russia’s claims to be the defender of Christianity.
When Notre-Dame burned in 2019, the world stopped.
Today, Russia damages Kyiv Pechersk Lavra, a monastery nearly 1,000 years old and older than Notre-Dame itself.
A thousand years of history deserves the same attention, the same sympathy, and the same protection.
The Dormition Cathedral of the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra will be restored.
Thanks to the professionalism and swift actions of our emergency responders, the fires have been extinguished.
Russia attempted to destroy the Lavra for a second time – just as it did in 1941. Thankfully, we will not have to rebuild this Ukrainian shrine from its foundations.
The Government will secure funding for its restoration. As President Zelenskyy noted, the Government is preparing decisions to allocate resources from the reserve fund for urgent roof stabilization and its subsequent restoration.
We expect a response from international organizations to yet another barbaric act by Russia. I have instructed Deputy Prime Minister for Humanitarian Affairs Tetiana Berezhna @BerezhnaT to intensify this work, including through the tools of the Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Fund.
Since early morning, I have also received numerous messages from representatives of Ukrainian businesses and philanthropists willing to contribute to the restoration of this sacred site. Thank you for your shared values and readiness to help.
The Government, together with the reserve administration, will organize this process.
My deepest gratitude goes to Ukraine’s Defense Forces and the State Emergency Service teams, who are working selflessly at the attack site to save lives and protect our cultural heritage. 🇺🇦
In a video posted to his X account, President Zelenskyy shows the damage caused by a Russian drone attack on the Mystetskyi Arsenal and Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra.
He said at least 11 people were killed and dozens were injured across the country.

And it all began nearly 1,000 years ago, when a monk named Anthony returned to ancient Kyiv from a monastery on Mount Athos in Greece.
He was seeking solitude and the life of a hermit, and so he secluded himself in small caves among the green hills on the banks of the Dnipro, where centuries earlier Vikings sought shelter while traveling far to the south along the great river had stopped and sought shelter.
People learned of the piety of the hermit Anthony, and disciples began coming to him in the caves. Over many years, they dug entire labyrinths in those caves, where they prayed and labored in the half-darkness -- and reverently noticed that after death the bodies of the monks remained incorrupt (of course, this was due to the unique microclimate deep inside the caves).
Thus was born the famous Kyiv Pechersk Monastery (that is, the “Cave Monastery”), which would later become the magnificent Lavra -- the foremost and greatest holy site of Christian Rus'.
A real city within a city, with magnificent ancient churches built by rulers of different eras, monastic caves, gigantic crowds of pilgrims, and, in later times, the famous 97-meter bell tower, one of Kyiv's calling cards, visible for many dozens of kilometers along the banks of the Dnipro.
Over its 1,000 years, the Lavra survived the internecine wars of the princes of Rus', the Mongol invasion, long years of decline and rebirth. It was the foremost center of learning and printing, and it was in its caves that the legendary monk Nestor wrote the famous Primary Chronicle -- the principal book of historical memory of the East Slavic peoples.
It survived the barbarity of the Bolsheviks. It survived destruction during World War II. It survived centuries during which Moscow priests, having seized it, lorded over it.
It will survive Putin and his fascist Russia as well -- no matter how the monster pukes blood in powerless rage because it cannot defeat Ukraine, and no matter how hard it tries to wipe from the face of the earth everything it cannot seize.
