@sstroschein2 @dkernohan Returning students, having rented accommodation from 1st July probably fed up with being at home. Preferred being with friends, and paying for the accom anyway. Might as well occupy it.
@PaulAshbyUB @dkernohan @sstroschein2 Many returning students going into student houses returned to their accommodation weeks ago. Accommodation rented from July 1st. Rather isolate with friends than family? Most of this discussion focusses on 1st year students.
@AndrewdataHE @jim_dickinson And there will be a risk to 'recruiting' institutions which may under-recruit given other institutions over-recruiting, with significant financial implications.
@jim_dickinson Reading the article, Kingston University Canada, seems to have mainly double occupancy rooms. It's only offering single rooms (hence 50% reduction). Not applicable to UK market (almost no double rooms for first year students).
@dkernohan Additional challenge of delaying start of year is the requirement to squeeze that year to finish by Aug21. Otherwise major clash in student accommodation. Unless start date permanently altered.
