Based at Georgetown University's @mccourtschool, CCF is a nonpartisan policy and research center with a mission to improve health coverage for kids & families.
Medicaid is the MVP of the healthcare system serving the needs of people across the lifespan. @GeorgetownCCF published a series of fact sheets explaining how Medicaid helps bring down costs and meets the needs of America’s families. https://t.co/0UjKL4eSDk
Our newest @georgetownccf team member + Texas native GJ and @AKohlerTX examine the maternal mortality crisis in Texas in this blog.

These delays for families are getting even worse!
More Medicaid applications are piling up in state offices as Texans are stuck waiting to start prenatal care or take their kids to the doctor.
We just published the new data: https://t.co/8gwPW6SXnp #TXlege
Nebraska, the 1st state to start Medicaid work reporting requirements, released data on the 1st few mos.
Over 1,000 people lost/were denied coverage - the vast majority NOT bcuz they’re not working but bcuz of red tape and process failures.

👀Friday PM drop from CMS on Medicaid waivers.
Lots of "overlay" letters sent to states to conform w/ OBBA
Of note so far
-Tennessee must apply Medicaid work reporting rules to its parent only expansion
-But CMS expects all parents will be exempt
-TN must still do outreach
New from me: Nebraska was the first state to begin Medicaid work requirement implementation post-HR1. So far, the process has been riddled with confusion, coverage losses, conflicting information and long call center wait times: https://t.co/31vgbqLp8P
@bridget__early has scooped the 1st data I have seen on Nebraska Medicaid work reporting requirements and it is worse than I expected.
Incomplete data shows that 1,000 have explicitly lost/denied coverage and almost half of new applicants are not getting thru the red tape.
Our new report out today highlights the additional challenges that rural communities will face with Medicaid work reporting requirements.
These problems will NOT be addressed by the rural health transformation fund nor will the woes of rural hospitals.

A new report from me and @AdamSearing
Rural Communities at Greater Risk of Harmful Impacts from New Medicaid Work Reporting Requirements https://t.co/SnZvlvAgIA via @GeorgetownCCF
PS: The problems we identify here will not be addressed by the Rural Health Trans Fund.
Our Medicaid tracker is updated and # of kids enrolled since Jan 2025 in ths US is now ⬇️ 2.45 million.
That's a lot.
Why is this important?
Some continue to miss the point.
When Medicaid child enrollment declines, the # of uninsured kids typically goes up.
👀New: Monthly Medicaid/CHIP data is out from @CMSGov and shows a 2 million drop in children from May 2025 to May 2026 -- a 5% decline in 1 yr.👀
This is not primarily due to Medicaid unwinding (which was over) or fertility declines as some have claimed.
Our new issue brief: How Are Parents Impacted By Medicaid Work Reporting Requirements? https://t.co/oXxDh91uH4 via @GeorgetownCCF
👀 In 27 states + DC no custodial parent should lose Medicaid due to work reporting requirements coming 1/1/27.👀
Spread the word please.
Our latest @georgetownccf report looks at uninsured rates for children under 3 as of 2024.
The # is going up, and this is before huge Medicaid enrollment losses in the last 18 mos.
States in blue have ⬆️ rates of uninsured babies and toddlers.

Nebraska is the first state to implement Medicaid work reporting requirements.
NE Medicaid director (who came from right wing groups that promote them) just resigned as disenrollments are about to heat up.

My new blog with @AKohlerTX - important message that is not out there...
Almost All Custodial Parents, Caretaker Relatives Should Not be Impacted by Medicaid Work Reporting Requirements in 28 States https://t.co/S48H2hQGZ3 via @GeorgetownCCF
We’ve update our Medicaid enrollment tracker and the news for children isn’t good.
Since January 2025 there has been a shocking drop of 2.3 million kids enrolled in Medicaid/CHIP.
This means the child uninsured rate is likely going up.
And so it begins. Pregnant woman disenrolled by mistake. Long waits to get through to the call center for help. No clarity on the rules.
Medicaid work reporting requirements don’t work. https://t.co/B7IMj5YHG2
Judge just denied request from the blue state AGs for a preliminary injunction to hold up parts of the Medicaid work requirement, but he has put the case on an expedited schedule and made clear that his ruling doesn’t pertain to the merits of the case.
