In celebrating the anniversary of Capital’s publication, we encourage all workers and oppressed peoples to read the book for themselves so that they too will become familiar with Marx’s invaluable insights as they fight to create a better world.
On this day in 1867, Karl Marx published the first volume of his magnum opus—Capital. Since its release, it has informed untold millions of workers and oppressed peoples around the world in their struggles against capitalism.
In Capital, Marx's primary goal was to break down the “laws of motion” which determine the origins, the rise, the development, the decline, and the eventual end of capitalism as a social system.

Happy birthday to labor leader and CPUSA member Angelo Herndon!
Born in Wyoming, Ohio in 1913, Angelo left his home at the age of 14 to find work in the mines of Kentucky. Later, he traveled to Alabama and began working for the Tennessee Coal, Iron, and Railroad Company.
Charged with attempting to incite an insurrection, he spent the next 5 years fighting for his freedom. His case traveled through Georgia's judicial system twice before appearing in front of the U.S Supreme Court, which finally granted his freedom in April of 1937.
